Through much persuasion from others, I suggested the Facelift as a potential for one of their programs. They are threatening to close down the series because of a lack of projects.I am not sure it fits with their mission though it is close. What do you think?

No, not really a dirty job considering the locale, but you could put him on some of the harder garbage extractions...cleaning up the Nose or some other El Cap route with a guide leading him up it.
That may work. Which route has the most crap on it? You could even have people intentionally leave crap-bags up there for him...to make it 'dramatic'.

The Program is a bit overkill. but, it could very well bring attention to a good cause. From what I have seen. it could well be a mock situation that is set up for the proogram but, like I said it coud be a positive way to get the word out.

Chicken - No way. I've seen some pretty crazy stuff on that show when I was able to catch it.
The Facelift is just a big clean up get together... With beer!

I like the show, but don't like the idea of portraying climbing and climbers as leaving their crap all over the place. Media amplifies, and draws inappropriate attention to something we already work hard at mitigating.
However, maybe, if the asphalt is still there from the NPS efforts that were pointed out in one of the old climbing vids, maybe that would be worth something.

oh yeah, I didn't read the other posts too closely, but the amount of literal sh#t that we picked up, on TP, in baby diapers, and garbage dumped off the side of the road.
I used the rubber gloves that were handed out.. and I'm not usually squeamish about such things, but I'm not into disease, either...
now is it compelling, charismatic TV? probably could be.... considering what shows up on TV these days...

Munge makes a good point, at least in terms of sending the sorry bastard up the Captain, it would only amplify how much crap some climbers leave behind.
Maybe having him haul some heavy, awkward sh#t thrown by tourists would be better? Maybe some diapers, as Ed pointed out too.
Ken, the more I think about it, the worse it sounds. The Facelift gives the park it's due without all the 'drama' of a tv show.
Maybe Yosemite NP could use less attention for a while.
It is an interesting show though.

Having never seen one of their shows I have no idea. Surely they have had a show on graffiti removal?
If we have a project for cleaning up a route I would suggest not involving TV. I still like the idea of putting a 500 gallon tank of water at the top and dropping 2000' of hose. Almost 900 PSI. Packing the water to the top would be a grunt. Take about 100 people to fill the tank once. Actually don't even need the tank. Just need the hose and some help from YOSAR.

Lots of folks pick up trash. That said, I found a special protocol for finding lot's of T.P. out there. Go to a tourist trail and then look for a desperate place. Climb over a bunch of logs and rocks etc... and then voila : T.P. As Ed stated I was surprised how much of the job was indeed dirty. Dirty? Yes. Exciting? I doubt it. Someone could think of some silly drama I'm sure. Good Luck.

Great Idea Ken, they were on the Palm Springs Tram on a recent episode. Kids love that show and it is a great opportunity to teach by example. Go for it.
