and the sad thing is that you people take that same empty value system and apply it to wherever you go....i am truly glad to see tech and retail struggling, and to see fuel prices so high...hopefully it will knock you fat pasty weak-end warrior bay area homos from treading on my turf, you do not see me invading your space why don't y'all get a clue....and scale back on your lifestyles, take responsibility for the crap you have created....iphones, blackberries, $5 cups of coffee, sad thing is in a true world none of you would survive a moment, none of you could apply yourselves beyond anything vain.

get bent.

I think you can blame the $5 cup of coffee on Seattle :)

Where exactly is your territory? I mean, so I know that I am not allowed to go there.

Pretty impressive post though. Most of my seventh graders couldn't produce a run on sentence that long!

Ralph is just a bitter Tahoe climber that hates Bay Area folk. It's no troll, just his bitterness coming to a boil. This is the same guy that laments the fact that anybody publish a Tahoe guide to infringe on HIS area.

whatever...

werd, it's heinous from the get go. but it just struck me when I saw those places. nice new clean, but next to the freeway. I'm thinking 5-600k maybe 7-8 tops.

A million focking dollars. OOOFA

I'm thinking the Smith Rocks property ain't such a bad deal at all - to carry "my" f'd up world view to other places.

California Luxury Home Values Move Lower
Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco All Drop For Second Straight Quarter
May 19, 2008
SAN FRANCISCO — Luxury home prices in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco all posted modest declines in the first quarter of 2008, according to the First Republic Prestige Home Index™ by First Republic Bank, a leading provider of private banking, private business banking and wealth management services.
In the quarter ended March 30, 2008, the Index indicated the following:
* Los Angeles area values decreased 2.2% from the fourth quarter of 2007 and 3.7% from the first quarter of 2007. The average luxury home in Los Angeles is now $2.35 million.
* San Diego area values slid 2.2% from the fourth quarter of 2007 and 4.9% from the first quarter of 2007. The average luxury home in San Diego is now $2.06 million.
* San Francisco Bay Area values dropped 0.8% from the fourth quarter of 2007, but were up 2.9% from the first quarter of 2007. The average luxury home in San Francisco is now $3 million.

"Values of luxury homes in California have declined slightly in price after many years of strong appreciation," said Katherine August-deWilde, President and Chief Operating Officer of First Republic Bank. "However, even with some modest price declines, there is still demand for attractive properties in the most desirable communities. The strongest markets are the best neighborhoods in San Francisco, desirable close-in suburbs and upscale coastal communities. The higher end of the luxury market is the most active."

Munge, my brother and I rented a 1bd/1ba. shitehole motel-style apartment in 1983 for $600.00 a month living in Sunnyvale.

Shocked us Montana boys pretty good--I wonder what that dive goes for now?

after divorce, i thought to possible try and stay there near my folks... but i could never make it now... rent, is near unbelievable, in many cases...

I'm returning to the land of my upbringing for this reason. Can't buy a house here on a teacher's salary. Two weeks....

Compared to what dude? There IS a reason EVERYONE (almost) wants to move here.

In the end though, is the show worth the price of admission?

For you to decide.

I lament the climbing in the bay area. I've never been to any bay area spot more than once. However, once resigned to driving (far) to climb, it's hard to beat. Challenging and lucrative careers, good food, interesting neighbors and nice weather. It could be worse.

gonna lay some heavy bread on you all

the problem with Calif. and esp. w/the Bay Area is that everyone is self-important. I see it everywhere: self-important lesbians, self-important school teachers, self-important barbers ...

Everyone is too cool for school; there's no sense of community -- but why would there be?

The schools suck. The traffic is shitttty and the public transportation is laughably bad.

I'm glad that gas is $4 a gallon. I hope that realtors start jumping from the new eyesore at the SF end of the Bay Bridge.
In fact, I hope a conga line forms.

hey there.... say, as to being tthe land of my childhood... i just love calif.. .and the weather most of all.... well, the ocean, too, the beach, the woods, the mountains, the river, the etc.. etc... oh, my... on and on i go.... :)

dont like not being able to live there, though... or, the traffic on the freeway--as i am not and never was, able to drive well and think that fast as to the many lanes and on and off ramps in certain areas...

love them foothills.. etc...
oh, well... neebee is just dwelling on the calif of the past...
and, playing with lizards, mud, tadpoles, frogs, toads, etc... listening to the bird and such, in the garden...

thought, there is much for you all to enjoy now, i really do know that.... :)

Marky, you nailed it...sort of. The problem with Amerika is that everyone is self-important. People of my generation (I'm in my mid 20's) have been raised to believe that we are stars in our own movies.

BA public transport is just fine. I've seen MUCH worse. I hope this thread doesn't turn into another "gasoline costs too much" bitching piece. Gas is still a f*#king bargain. Ever heard of carpooling?

You figure that rent would go down around here as the real estate market and the economy hit the wall.
But the opposite is true.
Ex home owners from the 916 are moving back into Bay Area apartments since this is where most of them work.

Makes getting out of town a little easier.
