if anyone lives in the palm springs area perhaps they could drive by to see if the old goat is ok.

i have the address if anyone in the palm springs area wants to contact me at the e below or call.

many thanks.

Hi Bruce, haven't heard from Jim for years, but I was wondering how you're doing?

hey middendorf,

shiprock was one of the great adventures of my life. i'm still climbing - but as i get older the climbing seems to get harder... infact moderate routes now seem like extreamly hard routes, so i guess you could say i'm climbing extreamly moderate routes now. although always looking to long, exposed and beautiful climbs.

want to do something extreamly moderate, long, exposed and beautiful this april??? let me know if you do.

hope you're well and thriving.

regards,

bruce

Hi Bruce-

Yes, that was a fine adventure with you and Calvin Hebert. My wife, Rowen and I will be in Australia this spring, but "extreme moderates" sound like my style these days too.

Give my best to Jim when you find him.

The Bird was at Outdoor Retailer a few weeks ago looking great. He was comparing recent hand wounds with another veteran. In fact, he looked better at this show than he did one year ago when I saw him!

Yep, he was looking a LOT better than the last summer show... Best I've seen him looking in years.

Although, he was telling me a story of climbing in Little Cottonwood Canyon and a climber came up to him and asked, "Aren’t you Fred Becky?" Jim shook his head with disbelief, "Do I look that old?"

*clears throat*, "No Jim, you don't look 85".

Later in the show I got a dose of the same medicine when someone came to me and asked, "Aren’t you Bullwinkle?" LOL

Saw him at the OR winter show a couple weeks ago... looking good. We had a one arm pullup contest and he won!

Yeah, I saw him a couple weeks ago but forgot to ask about City of Rocks.

He's a bold guy but I wonder if he would walk down the street smoking a doob, but then maybe things are different in New York since I lived there.
Each to their own sources of adrenaline I guess.

Somebody mistook him for Beckey!? FB was at the OR show too and there is NO mistaking Jim's youth for where Fred is now. I'm not dissing FB, the man is a legend, but come on!

I mean, isn't Jim the guy with the face of a teenager and the body of a 63 year old?

I'm glad he's well. Haven't seen him in a long time. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's sworn off the demon rum....it's just that I know how good it is for me...grrrr...

Speaking of which,.. in '98 Jim and I compared how many times we've been arrested.
Since then twice more for me (the usual, see thread).
