Hey, I keep seeing random postings mentioning a January 08' diet challenge. Is this true, and if so can any old swollen body get on in, or do you have to be in the inner circles? A little cash incentive might go a long way to bringing down the ponche. My wallet is not as fat as my belly but I think I can manage. -James

James, "random" posts eh? I see only yours my tubby little friend.

I'd probably go in for the challenge myself because it's the only thing that really motivates me. That said, depending on the response I am not committing to being the facilitator of this event. Anyone interested in being headmaster fatty?

First and foremost - If you feel the need to debate the challenge, rules, etc. please refer to http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=302249

If you would like to join this challenge I must receive a direct email for confirmation.

Weigh in date TBD based on response to this challenge. Personally I'd like to eat, drink and be merry all weekend. So, the proposed start date is Monday, January 14th with a final weigh out just in time for a box of chocolates... Valentines Day, February 14th. Any other suggested dates?

You can weigh in/out at anytime on start/end dates. Weight does not have to be disclosed to the group and/or forum unless you want to.

Rules:

-Commit to losing 10 pounds in 1 month
-For every 1 pound you DO NOT LOSE you will pay $10.00 to a maximum of $100.00
-Week 2 requires a weigh in - if you haven't lost as least 4 pounds - penalty fee of $10.00 pays to the pool
-No extreme dieting - such as running up and down to the Druids wrapped in cellophane wearing weights
-Winner(s) split the prize pool
-If no winners (this has never happened) - First person to hit the goal plus 2 extra pounds takes all (sudden death)
-Verification preferred but honor system for weigh in/out accepted
-Payments (both ways) can be made by cash, check or paypal - no delays in paying up!!!

The challenge, the fear! I could do it, I couldn't do it, I have to do it. I won't do it! Don't tempt me! Don't accuse me! Don't measure me! Don't make me judge myself - the gym already does that. I'm afraid, very afraid...

I'll go in for this. Put on 25 in the last 6 months, need to jumpstart the recovery plan.

I would love to take all your money but it would just be unfair. I have lost 35 lbs since I started climbing last June. If I keep it up I will get kicked out of the Fat Boys Mountaineering club. My knee has finally healed enough to allow me to get a little cardio in. The last few years were brutal to say the least. Good luck hope you’re all looser in a big way it will help you out with your climbing.

Cheers

PS It is best to have one good cheat day!

I'm IN! I'm on the other side of the international date line right now, so it is already almost the 11th. Damn, I better start bingeing before the 14th rolls around.

Jay & Joseph, you two in or knott?

It's taken about 5 challenges to get "Fish Finder" aka the Candyman in. Perhaps he was motivated by the scary events of PMB this past week.

Contest dates 1/14/08 to 2/14/08. James, how long are you in Malaysia?

I'm in. I wish the weigh-in were last night.
I mean I'd like to be lighter on the 14th than now, but
this is the first one that is anywhere near good timing.
I have at least half a chance.

That ends up being more than 5% of by weight (.054645 to be exact). But what the heck I can put on 3-4 pounds by Monday.

I'm in.

Prod, that'll be the case for anybody under 200lbs. Gaining a quick extra 4 lbs will knock your 10lb loss down to a mere 5.37594%. Piece o' cake.

Sooze- Thanks to the beauty of the international date line and all that other sh#t I leave at 5pm on the 11th and arrive in San Fran at 6:30 on the 11th! Only an hour and a half flight, so I'll be back for the weigh in.

I put on 5 or 8 since then, P envy.
It won't kill me if I end up contributing to the prize.
