They are right about one thing; the world (the way we know it) is coming to an end. (edit)

with all due respect jody - there is a lot of ground between what i would consider a christian and some of these people in a hurry to bring on the end times...that mentality on any side scares the willies out of me...

wiccan, mostly...with a little tao...but i was born and raised roman catholic (got guilt ?)...

edit -
ya know jody - i think that can be said of so many religious and other groups right now - we are knee deep in a 'divide the tribes' mentality, when the planet is really getting tiny at this point from a resource and population interaction standpoint - you'd think we would finally get it, that we are all in it together...and i sorta think many of us *do* - that's the weird part...

real ? accurate maybe ? for me, the j man was all about peace and love - all else flows from this...sounds kind of hippy, but, well, so it is...
now the old testament - whole nother horse...so who is right ? maybe god just is pissed, and the world is smite or be smitten ? love they neighbor, but not in that way lest we turn yea to pillars of salt ? i suspect the truth is even stranger than any of the stories we have in front of us...

Jody, it's interesting that you automatically assume the OP and others are, as you say, "predisposed to being bigotted against ALL christians". I see no evidence of that in the OP or below.

Oh come on!

You've got to be kidding me.

Now, my experiences have led me to be as wary of the christian right as anyone, but the above statement is as much utter bulllshit as "why do you hate america?"

How else could the title of this thread be interpreted? As "fair and balanced"?

"Truth is Stranger Than Fiction"--Bad Religion/Greg Graffin (PHD Biological Sci.)

PaganMB seems to understand that only through an open mind can one be able to START to seek truth. That piece of solid rock in front in front of us is made up entirely of particles which are mostly space--yet we only see/feel solid rock.

Our vision is clouded with what we WANT to see and believe.

Actually I am a Christian. I just prefer the Gospels; you know the love your neighbors, the meek shall inherit the earth, Thou Shall Not Kill stuff. The stuff Jesus (God) said. I don't pay too much attention to the Old Testament "we are the chosen people" self righteousness, nor Paul's God died on the cross as a scapegoat, "join the right team" self righteousness, nor the "you're all gona die" Revelation self righteousness.

To the degree that I am a fundamentalist at all I think that Hagee guy is the ANTICHRIST - preaching hate and murderous violence in the name of Jesus. He's utterly perverted everything the Lord taught us.

Iran is a country of 70 million people; and Hagee wants to attack it because they might "disrupt" the world economy. ie. not sell their oil to us?? Yea, so lets go kill a couple million so we can keep our Hummers and shop at Walmart 24/7.

Oh, yea. The OP title was a bit inflammatory; just using THEIR language. Back-at-you.

It's not a joke and it's not a small group. The american version of the Taliban exists. A guy wrote a book about it and was interviewed on Cspan a while back. He talked about the Dominion Christians and their goals. It's scary stuff.

I'm bigotted against Christians as a political force. Worshop as you please but stay out of politics. Murder means nothing to these wac jobs. By being the driving political force behind electing Dubya, they have contributed to more pain and suffering in this world than can ever be atoned for in their hell.

The most interesting question here is why anyone believes in any of this palpable nonsense in the first place. There was a discussion of the evolutionary origins of religion in the NY Times Magazine back in March. The url is:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/04/magazine/04evolution.t.html?pagewanted=all

Those who are adherents of the "God said it. I believe it. That settles it." school would do best to skip the article.

An amusing if somewhat silly thread. Some people on ST don't get enough climbing in.
