I don't think this really conforms to the 1st Admendment separation of church and state clause. They are clearly advancing their religious views on how the Canyon was formed. It would be kinda/sorta funny if it wasn't so scary
oh, sorry (just a little bit) for the political nature of this.

Then you don't understand the first ammendment. There is no seperation of church and state clause. It says the government shall make no law ESTABLISHING a religion. Allowing the sale of a (populuar) book hardly qualifies as establishing a religion. We've gone way overboard. No one would have said a thing if it was a buddhist book on meditation and how to enjoy the beauty of the Canyon.
Establish: Verb: i'stablish - Set up or found

Sadly, nor does the 1st amendment prohibit the establishment of ignorance.

ok, my bad for using the 1st. Admendment arguement, I just find it reflective of the administrations attempt to promote fundamentalist relgious views anyway it can in the govt. At least to me.

No sh#t. How is that even comparable to using the Flood to explain how the GC was formed?

scary... a “Faith-Based Parks” agenda. Anyone know what the creationist theory of the valley is? Noahs flood? Or do I have to wait for the NPS sponsored book?

I find it soooooooo very interesting that Democrats feel free to quote old historical dogma when it fits their needs, but call it old historical dogma when it doesn’t!
did you know that the 'founding fathers' all held that the bulk of an estate ought to become the property of the government when a wealthy man died? they were particularly concerned about the rise of a ruling class and eventualy living under a monarchy, right here in this country. you don't hear the repub's spouting about that when they talk about the 'death tax', do ya? but they quote the hell outta the old revolutionary dads when it suits their needs...
And what the hell is this crap about Cheney’s daughter. Even comes up in the debates!
The “Dems.” Are outing the poor woman when she doesn’t want to be!
actualy, cheney was talking openly about his daughter's sexual prefrences in interviews going back several weeks ago, and she is an activist, so her life is no secret, she wears it on her sleeve. you are repeating a gripe of opportunism that has no factual basis.
Say Kerry’s daughter might be of the lesbian persuasion (now that has me thinking). If the Elephants were to be making ANY noise about this, there would be an uproar! But the Dems. can jab Cheney freely?!
no one 'outed' cheney's daughter.
she is not ashamed of herself (though her parents and their party never bring her up on stage at any of the usual times, after the debvates, etc.

Funny how right-wingers became "indignant" over an alleged breach of privacy of a gay person yet support an anti-marriage amendment to the Constitution that would intrude into the most private spheres of lives. Hypocrites.

Who the hell are you Fattrad? Do you even climb or are you too fat?
Matt climbs and happens to be pretty good. I bet he could outclimb most people on this forum. I'd climb with him anytime.
One of these days, all you Bush supporters will see the light.

fattrad, you are acting like a flaming jerk and making the incorrect assumption that this forum is about you and your opinions. take a step back and learn that this is not the case as others of us have.

Matt is a pussy who doesn't act at all in person like he does on this forum -- which is a good thing.
It's sad when someone's Real Life™ persona is so different from when they spew on-line.
Hey Matt, go ahead and call me names. And then, like before, when I see you in
person you will be back to your normal meek, mild self as usual.
You would never have the sack to talk sh#t to my face and you know it.
Do you remember when I confronted you at Shoreline a couple years ago?
And do you remember what you said and how you acted?
Pussy.

Ok -- I had another cup of coffee, and had a good laugh when I re-read my post above.
Instead of editing to tone it down, I'll let it stand. Should be good for laughs down the line...
Just want to make clear that I wasn't inferring any sort of physical situation;
that's not my style at all -- and is obvious to anyone who knows me.
What's interesting about Matt is that I have never once heard him talk about politics
in person. Yet that's all he ever posts about here. Why is that?
Matt talks a lot about climbing in person, yet he never posts about climbing here.
Why is that?
Matt obviously climbs, (or at least he used to) and he has done some proud stuff.
And if you met him in person or asked about him, you would know this to be true.
But you would never know it by reading anything he has posted here.
Are we getting the picture?
IMO, Matt would be a lot cooler if his on-line persona even remotely resembled who he is in Real Life™.
Hell, I might even buy Matt a beer if he promises to STFU about politics on this climbing forum.
(after I severely heckle him publicly)
