Do you have anything climbing-related to talk about?

Ever think of posting your precious political insight to the 10's of thousands of
more appropriate places on the internet?

In this case, even if you are right, you are wrong to highjack this climbing forum.

Seek help for your obsession.

Matt I'm 100% with you on the war and love your posts.

On the other hand, we all go too far sometimes or just say the wrong thing in the wrong place. I'm angry about the war too. Preaching to the choir makes you feel better but doesn't do any good. Pushing too far alienates the very folks who need to see the other point of view. They won't give you a chance if you direspect them too far.

I understand your emotions but, in the case of the fallen soldier, you didn't do the cause any good by forgetting that it's as if you were speaking right at the online funeral.

I stick my foot in my mouth more than you so I'm not preaching, just asking you to step back and consider the big picture.

Peace

Check out faces of the fallen on the bottom of the page, I couldn't paste it in.

Thing that gets me is that, what about the lives of Iraqi's, are they not valued? Should we not be ashamed of the deaths of other countries civilians, military, terrorists, truck drivers.
The US should never strike first. If we were attacked by Iraq it would be a competely different story.
This is one mans war and he should feel guilt for every life lost whether it US, Iraqi,or whoever.

why is it that a select few have to pretty much ruin this message board?

you guys should go over to cascadeclimbers.com where they have a specific place for political comentary called "Spray."

there are about 10 times the number of frequent posters on that site and much more interseting and inteligent discussions about polotics over there.

that way you wouldn't need to spew the same old bullshit to the same ten people and start the same old thread on supertopo over and over again...

karl- it wasn't my intention to offend anyone on that thread, and i don't think what i posted was disrespectful. in accordance with the wishes of the guy who started the thread, i deleted those posts, but that was just exactly what i was feeling at the time, so what are you gonna do... (just tried to write the guy an email explaining myself and assuring him that i'd not meant to disrespect either him or his friend's service, but my email pgm froze up- sh#t...)

satan- couldn't you be having better parties in the white house while your boss is vacationing at his ranch in texas? hef makes you look like a chump, if you are gonna be all evil and sin all the time and stuff, at least have a good time doing it.

HK- so sorry to bore you pal, didn't know i had to get your "ok" to post, maybe you could add a button to make it simple for me ("topic autorization- click here"). hey, i know, maybe if i posted something about some really cool automatic weapons then you, guido, and jody could continue to post all your cool gun porn (pot? kettle? yeah...). guess it only bothers you when you don't want to hear about it, how unusual. not to worry, you've still got the whole am dial to play with, where you won't have to deal w/ me at all (unless the giants are on).

(added)
bilbo- i agree. i think it says something about our culture that we diligently count every one of our own dead, but make no effort at all to count the iraqis we kill. is it such a wonder that they are not interested in having us around? and why would they want our form of government in their country when we are so captivated with selling this war to our own people, rather than selling it to the people of iraq? which is really more important?

one the one hand, it's ok to kill them indiscriminantly because thay are all terrorists, but on the other hand, we are fighting the war to get rid of the guy that dared to mistreat and kill them! (and oh yes, he did gas them, but where do you think he got the gas!?! that madman, he was supposed to use that only on the arabs and muslims that were on the other side! duh!)

now should we start talking about who created osama bin laden? god forbid anyone refer to our "liberators" as "occupiers", unless, ya know, you happen to be the president of the united states...

Moore is a pussy. After listening to his crap and opinions I feel dumber for wasting my time on something so worthless... although at least I usually get a laugh out of his rhetoric - I find it remarkable that anyone buys into his bullsh!t jargon.

"The US should never strike first."

Typical crap from the left that will get us all killed.

how about if we all agree that we ought not to strike first unless we have a really really really good reason?

is that the same as someone telling us that we have a good reason?
hmmm....
what if they say it a bunch of times?
what if they really really mean it, and it sounds all scary n-stuff?

that should be good enough, dontchya think?
plus, if we never use all these old weapons around here, we will never get to buy any new ones...

i can't believe i have my very own thread, PLUS flash and satan are dissing me, this has gotta be a great omen of some kind!

i would like to thank all of the little people who helped me along the way, and, oh yeah, my band, you guys are the best, and my teammates, cause they help me get all the open shots, so this award is really for them, and of course my agent, and most of all my president, for all of the inspiration; i could never have come this far as an internet forum poster without you, george!

Well, at least Matt is accepting the kind, well meaning and constructive feedback in this thread graciously. More than can be said for others who contribute such positive comments to this forum.

While you may not appreciate his views or his style, you've got to give the man credit for his perseverance. The general quality of commentary here discouraged me from trying to communicate anything worthwhile some time ago. At least Matt has the mental wherewithal to stand behind his words, and bring example after example to try and illustrate his point repeatedly to those who bring no evidence to bear, yet try and compensate with ridicule and meaningless insults.

Matt keep up the good work. However, you went a little to far on the thread about Alex we all need to respect his memory and the wishes of his family. That being said I have not seen any climbing topics not getting discussed because of Matts threads. If you do not like what he writes dont read it and dont respond.Reading Matts stuff is more entertaining than some of you pating each other on the back about what great climbers you are. The important climbing topics are not effected by all the other threads. Some of the climbing threads are pretty out there as well.

9 of 25 threads on the front page are political threads. This bumps actual climbing topics from appearing on the front page.

This is how all of the relenentless, reduntant political spray impacts climbing discussion on this board. Combine that with how many climbing threads are turned into political discussion and I bet its up to 50% of all front page content. If I weren't stuck with dial up, I would research this further.

gosh i have good timing...

13 of the 25 topics on the front page have not even been posted on today, so perhaps there is a darwinian effect going on there. certainly if the topics that drift are sooo fascinating, they will be back, and if not, then folks must not be all that interested in them, so your point does not motivate me to limit what i think is interesting or important.

hey, if you ever get DSL, why not do some research on how many threads are giberish, general heckeling, trolls, or asking for beta that exists on the route pages?

and btw-
while i may actively participate in these discussions, i don't usually start all that many threads.
