Quoted from the article:

Cimino said, in this case, it was determined that having the well-known climber work with the climbing community, and acknowledge the offense, would be a more effective way to continue to educate the climbing public about the rules and regulations governing climbing in Wilderness Areas.

Just curious: Since the identity of the Well-Known Climber™ is being kept
secret, how is the Well-Known Climber™ going to "work with the climbing
community and acknowledge the offense" if we don't know who the hell it is?

It sounds like the climber is going to have to identify him self in a letter to the press.

I know who did it! Lets just say others are guilty, not only of bolting in the wilderness but of bolting cracks in the same drainage!

Sorry, I did'nt mean to imply that bolting in the wilderness was/ is illegal. I dont think I even mentioned the word "illegal"!
Flash, its none of the guys you mentioned but you'd probably hit it if you kept guessing! Hint: He developed some good stuff at other Mammoth area crags, that also later became bolted cracks. I understand that permission was given for the route I'm thinking of, BUT, I and I'm sure others were waiting for the sack to lead it on gear the way it was established now as one mad east side bolter told me "you'll have to stick on your, I dont see the bolt glasses"!!
