I'm fat and I'm in.
And I'm not betting on Nature this time.
How about an overnite package of rolls to the winner? I'll pony up some cash for that prize.

If you run it on % instead of lbs, I might be in. (10 lbs. would be too much, but I could stand to loose 5 to get to fighting weight.)

I'm with Melissa - I'd look scary if I lost 10 lbs, but perfect if I dropped 5...
What is the deadline?

either im getting fat or someone keeps sneaking into my closet and switching my tuxedo pants for smaller and smaller ones.
what are the rules? I think i might be in.
a friend had a diet challenge in his office, they did some crazy calculation of % muscle mass mantained or gained and % fat lost.
i'll email him for details.

The problem I see with doing it by percentage is 1) more difficult for the person running the thing to do the math and 2) it takes you just as much affort as it takes me to lose 1 lb (we burn pretty much the same cals running a mile). Eating 3600 cals means the same to you as it does me - one pound of body weight.
The rules are simple:
One month to lose 10 lbs.
For every pound you don't lose of that 10 lbs you kick in $10 to the prize pool ($100 max).
At two weeks there is a check-in - if you don't lose 4 lbs by week two you kick in another $10.
Anyone that loses 10 lbs or more splits the prize pool.
Off-track side betting is allowed.

Nature - I've got the rules written up if you guys are interested.
Melissa - I've heard that before...."can't lose 10 pounds". Kate told me the same thing went down 7 in the last challenge. Then she kept at it to finishing out with a lean fighting weight 13 under. She's now claiming lighter than she's been since high school! By the time she gets off Lost in America she'll be ready for the weight GAINING challenge!!
I leave for a cruise with my daughter in less than 3 weeks. I'd like to go down 6 before we "launch".
No climbing 10 days surrounded by unlimited booze & food! Humm, I'm thinking it's best to lose the few pounds I put back on since the last challenge. Lord knows it will be back on by the time I get back.
Who's in for a mini challenge?

I made a double batch of coconut cookies. ATe 75% of them. Night before I made a batch of peanut butter cookies. Burned 25%, sent 25% to Radical and ate the rest.
Six pack a night for five nights running.
Stuffed my pie hole all day while out climbing. My arms were flaming on 5.11-. Yuck.
Fat-boy-nature over and out...
PS - who's in?
PPS - yeah, at a whole bag of those Thia kettle chips last week - polished them off in 20 minutes. Almost bought a bag today but opted for veggies and fruit. hmmm...

Sorry nature, but you are wrong about the absolute thing. The body has a calorie maintenance level based upon the mass of various types of tissue. If tissue types, gender, hormone, and activity levels, etc. are the same, somebody 20% larger needs 20% more calories to maintain weight. (likewise with gain or loss).
If you can put together a web page, surely you could put together a spreadsheet, so the ease of calculation argument flies out the window, too.

my number are close enough to serve my purpose and make my point. I'm not into the percentage thing - 10 lbs is the goal.

No way should people be losing 2-3 lbs a week. No wonder they rebound. I found myself 15 lbs over and just made a few changes. No eating between meals, no extras with a meal, replacing a few dinners a week with simple vegetable sandwiches was my trick. But everyone knows their habits and can make their own adjustments. Weigh and record right when getting up. Hydration levels will cause fluctuations (I've been riding hard century routes each Saturday so see 2-3 lb loss but gain back most in the next few days). But the trend has been 1 lb a week for the last 12 weeks. Some experts say .5 lb a week is what you should be aiming for.

It's not can't so much as don't want to loose 10.
I want to loose 5 to climb lighter, but 10 would be flirting too close to the edge of unhealthy.
