I was 17, I think, and Richard Harrison and I were heading for Yosemite for the first time that summer. It was still winter and we were climbing at Suicide and Tahquitz and one of the local heros, Bud Couch, had a Yosemite vet. friend named Jim Donini, and we went bouldering with him at County Park and I picked his mind for information about the Valley. I must have been the most obnoxious person on earth. Jim was good people and put up with us and always had a sense of humor and took us seriously as human beings. Jim is a real guy who has led an incredible life.

Welcome Jim,

It has always been a pleasure to bump into you many times over the years, at OR, or my one good time in Talkeetna. You continue to inspire, I want to climb like you in twenty years.

Sorry to be missing your shindig in Bend this weekend, I hope you have a blast!

Welcome Jim!...saw a slideshow he put on about 6-7 years ago...about alpine rock in Patagonia. Already knew all about Jim...starting with the National Geo devoted to Egger that I have keep as inspirtation for a long time. Anyway....Jim was funny as hell..constantly repeating the phrase...

"Real climbing here folks....the real thing!"

As a slide of him with and icetool and ascender in one hand, surly look on teh mug, flashed across the screen. Good sh#t for sure.

Hi Jim. Welcome to ST. I am sure that you know lots of folks. The rules are endless and we all ignore them.

Real shame about Jim. I mean he was no spring chicken but it's never easy.

Hi Jim,

I had a great time getting to know you and your wonderful wife last fall at the creek. Thanks for taking me out and trashing me and showing me around Indian Creek for a few days. I hope to climb with you again some time.

A few photos of Jim and a few other faces you may know from this site.

Loomis, that was Rick Sylvester who did the big whipper for Bond in Meteora. He also did the ski parachute jump off Asgard for "Spy Who Loved Me" (after practicing on El Cap). Jim's a badass but Rick's just nuts ;-)

Ain't that the truth. Rick skied off the WEML with a parachute after everyone else had, seemingly, died trying it. I also think that Rick may have been the first to ski down that snow chute on the cliff under the Tram in Squaw. Absolutely fearless.

Jim:
Got to be careful with ST. It is a very pleasant disease. I suggest you adopt a rule of never firing the site without first doing 100 pushups.

Cheers,
