Gym climber
....down by the river
Topic Author's Original Post - Mar 17, 2007 - 05:46pm PT
Anybody know anything about this? I just got a "letter" from Jim Donini, the pres of the AAC, wanting me to renew my my membership. In the letter he says he just did a new route on Fitzroy. No news anywhere about this....

I heard he was down there trying a new route in total alpine style with no fixed ropes, pins, or bolts. Way bad ass if he pulled it off. Any details?

Heard whispers over the last few seasons that he wanted to climb North Pillar?

I'm sitting with Jim in Ouray right now. I just broke all his fingers so he can't type this himself. He was in Patagonia when the letter was sent out in his name and hopes it said he was working on a new route on Fitzroy. Between breaking up fights between famous climbers and lots of bad weather he was unable to complete this route. He's going back next year.

Sheesh,
Close call, started to look like people knew way too much, thought this might degenerate into a climbing thread.

Word.

I would vote for Donini for President.

Damn, hardman if you ask me. And wasn't he Special Forces? Got the military res going for him. He wouldn't take sh#t that is for sure. Like Kerry, we're talking no chickenhawk here.

A climbing rope for every house hold! On second thought that's not a good idea. How about one free membership to an indoor climbing gym for every household? Don't want to crowd the scene anymore than it is.

And he's a down to Earth nice guy. He bought me my first beer in a bar in Leavenworth, WA, at the age of 18, in '80. I will always remember that . . . hick-up . . . burp . . . whew, excuuuuse me! I don't think I drank a beer so fast. They always say if you can't imagine having a beer with the man then he isn't Presidential. I already did!

Wow, a President that can climb --- cool. Real climbers have the proper perspective about what matters. He can make Yvon C. his Secretary of the Interior. Wow, we could really come up with a great administration if you think about it . . .
