I read on CNN that Dean Potter and Graham Hunt died in a BASE jumping accident in Yosemite Saturday. I am surprised no one is talking about it on here.

It was deleted at the request of friends and probably family. Sorry if anyone was offended.

It was evidently a very dificult, technical line that was being taken......accident is probably not the best operative term, miscalculation would likely be more accurate.

Here is a Google Earth shot of Taft Point, they apparently misjudged the notch into the valley (according to a news report)

Anyone have info on Grahm? It'd be nice to know a little more about how these guys lived the past few years and their accomplishments....

Agree. I read the whole thread early this morning and didn't see anything offensive. Only 1 maybe 2 complaints I noticed from a couple old curmudgeons? This is all over every social media site in existence seemingly today "trending" at the top of my facebook. It seems more appropriate here.

I know nothing of base jumping, but my understanding is that Taft point is pretty regularly jumped.

2 people getting killed at the same time seems to suggest this "notch" mentioned in the news report was something out of the ordinary.

It's a shame the other thread about this tragedy was deleted.

Both of these men were inspirational and larger than life characters. I admire them for how they lived.

Condolences to family and friends.

Rest in peace brothers. May you forever soar the heavens.

Rock is much more predictable than air.

Air is very predictable - aerodynamics is a science. However, when you only have a 2:1 or
3:1 glide ratio you have little margin for error, especially in the dark.

Rip Dean and Graham. My condolences to family and friends.

One can only live on the razor's edge for so long.

These two did it well.

Yeah the OP of that thread originally had the names wrong, seems like they rushed to be the first to post the news, and now are making up some random excuse to nuke it.

Randisi, who's arguing? You made an inaccurate statement. I corrected it. You're welcome.
And FYI turbulence is part of the science which is factored into the safe conduct of flight.
They miscalculated, most regrettably. I'm as sorry to hear this as you.

My best to their loved ones who must be hurting. Said earlier:
Dean was such an uber mensch of heroic stature. Didn't know Graham but he must have been both a bad ass and a good guy to be hanging with Dean. Hard to believe anything could ever happen to Dean. To me: yes. To you: yes. To Dean, no - no way. The guy was on the next dimension and he had such a powerful presence on so many levels. Wow, condolences only begins to say it......hugs to his loved ones and those close to them both. Deans spirit will most assuredly be missed on this earth.
