I spent 6 years in community college, and would've failed English and not graduated had the teacher not felt bad and gave all the ones who didn't pass a "C."
Fun fact - I'd never failed a single test in my life. If school never had home work I would've been a straight A student. Did probably 10% of my homework in my academic "career" - and got straight D's most of the time.
Wish I took it more seriously because it could've given me something to fall back on, but who knows? Maybe I'd be just another f*#kin' dood getting married and working 9-5 at a job he hates.
The 'real world' is overrated.
Maybe I'm just another hippie...

I joined the military too. Hated it. I did get kinda screwed not having a diploma and I was the smartest dude in boot camp. They were unable to brainwash me.
Edit. No disrespect to you Survival. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

'Maybe I'd be just another f*#kin' dood getting married and working 9-5 at a job he hates.' plus misogynistic text on image... Good thing that didn't happen, so you never had to pretend it was someone else's fault you were miserable!
Dropping out of school? No... Like GDavis, I was too good at tests and enjoyed taking them, and back then(graduated HS in 1980), they didn't have attendance requirements like are in place now. I spent at least one day each week of my senior year at home instead of going to school, and totally got away with it. My mother was grateful for my help, since on says away from school I would do the housework, and so if the school called about my absences, it never got back to me.
I dropped out of my career as a fashion designer though, and I think in some respects it is about the same as dropping out of school. Like The Larry, no regrets about that either!

Hey Happiegirrl
Don't worry, guys do it too. Ever see a dude's wife get pregnant, and he suddenly puts on 40lbs? Sympathy weight my ass.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Good thing it didn't happen, because I would hate to be married to a fatty!
Nothing wrong with being fat. Some people love it. Lots of dudes are into that sh#t. Why you gotta fat shame?

The Larry, no disrespect taken, at all.
Never thought it would be my cup of tea either. Just found out some things about myself there that I might not have learned elsewhere. It worked out for me, that's all.

11 years later and I'm still having dreams where I'm in class and I didn't do the homework.
The teachers always have a way of making you feel like you are retarded for flaking. I'm 15 dude! Video games are awesome and you are a tenured dork who gave up trying long before I did. Stop handing out packets and inspire :P

This could have been written by Royal Robbins Larry. I just finished his first autobiography book, and this is damn near exactly what he says. Remarkable.

It's really not that bad.
For some people they absolutely love it. I have a few friends who are crazy about the life they built, working on weekdays and climbing on weekends.
That's not what I meant, though. You know what I meant. There are a hundred million people slaving away because they were told what to do and how to do it, and never really thought for themselves if they enjoyed it.
We gonna pretend everyone is the same?
I don't mean to paint with such a broad brush, but like Larry it isn't for me. We each have to make our own way through life. The most ripped, muscular good looking dude I know is married to a woman who is easily 75lbs overweight - and he f*#kign LOVES it. Tells me about it. Too much. Ad naseum.
If it works for you, great! But you won't see me punching a clock at Wal-Mart, no matter how happy it might make some people. Don't make it wrong for them.

I dropped out after 8th grade. But I started taking classes at the community college and now have an associates in Math and one in Geology, a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Engineering.
I think high school would have been a complete waste of 4 years. Incidentally, I started climbing the same time that I left school.

It's ok eeeeeeeKat, I put it on the wrong thread too, HA!!
Things have changed.
Oh yeah, people didn't drop out to help feed their families in the teens, 20's, 30's, 40's etc etc.
Or maybe the century before, when working the fields was considered far more important than lernin hou too rite gud.
Things have changed for the better in most ways.

Dropped out senior year, when they made me retake the history final because they thought i cheated. Got the highest grade in the class on that, but failed anyway.
Every week I got called in and asked if i was on drugs. Never was. Just hated school with a passion.
Went to Job Corps, then college for an AAS. Now i teach the odd class here and there. Go figure.

High school was miserable. The most useful thing I got from it was some marginal photography skills, some decent spanish, and a few good friends. Getting the diploma was a must, but it felt like getting out of prison.

So many government jobs require a college degree that a 12 year old could do. That's f*#ked up.
College is a scam. Puts you in debt. Makes you a slave.

I wish there was a law that required every 16 year old kid in this country to work behind the counter in retail sales for 6 months.
I wish there was a law where people who were as#@&%es to people working in a retail/fast food jobs had to give a day's worth of their salary to the person they'd abused, and work that job for just one day!
Back to school... I REGULARLY have dreams that I am going to school, but cannot remember my locker combination or which class I am supposed to go to, because... well, because I skipped out so damned much!
Strange, these things that latch on within our minds....

first crush's phone number 468-**40
Best friend in H.S.'s number 525-**52
Jr. High's friend's number 631-**57
