I am very sad to say Pat has got prostate cancer.
He is going to be operated on on November 7th at the V.A. in Los Angeles.
We wont know the extent of it until the surgery. The good news is prostate cancer is generally very treatable.
As many of you know Pat is a great , compassionate, generous person. He is always willing to help out any one in need.
I'm sure he would love hearing some words of encouragement from his friends.
I am sending positive vibes your way Pat. You have a great attitude and will beat this thing!

I'll be thinking of you on the 7th. I have no doubt of a positive outcome, but I know the path getting there can be bumpy and uncomfortable. Be well, my friend.

I understand Pat has a great prognosis during recovery......his eyes will be working overtime with VERY GUD views! Best wishes and prayers for you Pat!

Go Pat! It's a bit*ch going through the surgery and treatment, but it does give a laser like focus on recovery and then it becomes just another chapter in a life being well lived!
And as Ron said you will be having EXCELLENT aftercare on so many levels!

Thanks for the kind words and positive vibes everyone. In my mind I know I really don't have a lot to be worried about regarding the outcomes of my surgery, but it's one of those emotional things knowing I have body rot and they have to open me up like a handbag to remove it. Mine is almost identical to my fathers bout with prostate cancer, so the family connection is very strong. There were almost zero symptoms and we wouldn't have caught it without a couple of PSA tests 4 months apart that showed a spike in my numbers. When I got the call from the doctor telling me the biopsy was positive, I felt like someone had knocked the wind from me.
I know what to expect, but still I've never had any deeply invasive surgery that involved organs etc. What I am worried about is it migrating from my prostate to either my lymph system, which is what happened with my father. He's still going strong today, 20 years after they removed his prostate, with it lodged in his lymph system.
That being said, after this is over I am looking forward to getting on my bike again (bike saddles are prostate irritants) and losing some of the excess blubber I've accumulated over the last few years. The VA has been "bery, bery, good to me" and have taken care of the DVT (blood clot) in my left leg and found relief for my messed up left foot. I'm actually looking forward to going climbing again.
Again, thanks to one and all. Having the support of friends and family goes a long way for a single guy in providing needed emotional juju from a great group of folks.

Serious business but very happy to hear the doctors have a plan of action and you're educated on the process, results and family history success as well. Also super glad you stopped that silly idea of to not include your friends and community during the process. As you've seen, our community is amazingly supportive and concerned for it's members. You are one of us!

The "laser like focus on recovery" that SCSeagoat mentions must be balanced
by something "easy on the eyes." Make sure yo get Ron's help during your
recovery.
