I'd love to get those Dolt nuts, been trying to get some Dolt gear for a while. I'm guessing the bidding will be steep on those though. Beautiful gear!

The knurled nuts with single hole are Dolt.
Wow, wide selection of Titons.
Larger Forrest nuts are Foxheads.
Smaller Forrest nuts are Arrowheads.
SMC Wedges (I have not seen them cabled) - rare according to Stephane.

Clint, Brian is selling the stuff on my behalf. I just don't have much interest in it although it's got a lot of historical value.

It has been sitting in a bin in my garage for years and he's got experience selling stuff over the internet, so he agreed to do so with this equipment.

Here's the (long and boring) back-story:

About four or five years ago a young man I'd helped in my work years before called me. He re-introduced himself, told me he'd been off to college in southern California, and told me he'd gotten interested in climbing while away. His mom and dad knew about my climbing and told him to call me. He then started climbing with me a bit. For a whole summer he helped me now and again with guidebook research and with some photos (he had a camera with a wide-angle lens that was really useful).

One day Matt told me that his dad's friend (I never learned his name) had been a climber and had a large bin of barely used climbing gear. The friend wondered if Matt wanted to buy it. Matt asked what I thought. I told him to figure out what was in the bin, so Matt brought it over.

It had some stuff that was still usable (like the stoppers you noticed were missing), but much that wasn't (and no cams - the most modern pieces of gear seemed like they were from around 1979 or so). I told Matt that if he was interested he should work out a sales price with his father's friend, that I'd then pay half of that price, that he could take everything we thought he might still be able to use and that I'd keep the rest.

So that's what Matt did.

I haven't seen or climbed with Matt for quite some time now though. He finished college, stayed in southern California, started a business and (I think) got married. He did just contact me about buying a copy of the book. It was nice to touch base with him again. He's still climbing some.

EDIT: yes, that last type of gear sling shown is a Forrest "pin bin," designed for carrying pitons. My very first climbing partner actually owned one too.

Thanks for the story, Brad.
So I guess we don't know why the original owner bought all that stuff and pretty much never used it.
I have seen other accumulations of unused gear on ebay; sometimes people invest $$ and then don't end up climbing much.
Perhaps: "I meant to get into it, but then I found out it was hard and scary!"

Ugh. I *SO* want the hammer and Titons, but need neither and can't figure a way to justify even more vintage gear. Especially when I already have a nice pile of Titons.... :(

That gear sling is absolutely the coolest piece of vintage gear I've laid eyes on in some time.

Hmmm...Makes me think about producing some repro's ......

The knurled nuts with single hole are Dolt Spidernuts or Crudnuts (1969). I suspect that the sizes are #1 (1/2”) to #5 (1”).
