I'd vote for the ladder, traffic controls on the fixed lines, and minimum qualifications for climbers. It's too late to prevent Everest from becoming Disneyland - the best that can be done is to try to get it under control. I also think the tourists are abusing the sherpa laborers, and am glad to see someone defending them.

What they should really do is ban fixed lines above camp IV.
That would relieve some of the congestion for sure.
If you can't lead that sh!t, you shouldn't be there!

I really wanted to climb Everest. It was a boyhood dream that has died hard. I just cannot bring myself to participate in the circus that is Everest these days. It saddens me to think of it becoming a tourist attraction, not much different than a ride at Disneyland. Everest is the highest peak on the planet. It is supposed to be tough, cold, unrelenting, hard, unpredictable and barely doable without O2. Instead, it has been reduced to the lowest common denominator, money."Friends, ladders, countrymen... its ALL aid." True that, but how far down that road are we willing to go? Should we just bolt the f*#k out of everything? How about a massive bolt ladder up the Captain, that way anyone can just clip bolts and climb the thing. Is that ok? No learning curve, no training, no dreaming of the mystery, no being self reliant,in any sense of the word, no romance with the unknown? Just pimp it out to the highest bidders, and start jugging lines or clipping bolts. Hard to fault the Nepalese for cashing in, but some dreams just die hard.

Oh, I dunno...I can empathize with the desire, and they certainly deserve a bigger piece of the pie, but....
...there would certainly be plenty of 'fault' that would be placed on any group that made similar 'enhancements' to a classic objective (i.e. aforementioned 'Nose Bolt Ladder') in order to increase traffic for the purposes of guiding...

I believe you are describing a guided ascent of El Cap there? Just add a top rope for the person that is jugging a fixed line, and you got it. :)
