Everytime I note a news flash about an obscure recent painting going for millions of dollars, it reminds me that people with money like to collect old stuff, that is somewhat rare.
Some of us on the Taco: believe certain items of our pre-80's gear may be rare, & worth something.

Someone too embarrassed to provide an identity? And why the private listing? Starting price of $100. That's ballsy. I hear that #3 Camlocks are worth some bread (literally, some bread).

Dang, I had some old gear over the years, except most of it has gone missing or rusted in this one basement flat I lived in for several years.

Check out my auction for a rare blue anodized Eiger biner (vintage 1971). I'll even throw in a brake bar. Starting bid only $450.

I think the #1's are pretty uncommon.
Can't recall the size one I have that purportedly Bridwell cut into a bird beak and gave to a local SLC climber who used it on Desert Shield in Zion. Its thin, though.

why the private listing?
So the seller can bid on it and raise the apparent worth for when she really does try to sell it?

I guess I need to reevaluate my net worth -- and increase my personal property coverage! I have three mint Crack-n-up's, a whole bunch of original Chouinard Hexcentrics and Stoppers (not to mention lots of Chouinard Cam-a-lot's), etc. If I add "very rare" on an Ebay auction, can I gets hundreds apiece, too?

This all reminds me of the time Kor and Bridwell climbed the Folly. There had to have been some point to their naming it so. What could it have been?

Mouse,
According to Rich Calderwood, the name came from an earlier attempt by Calderwood and Jeff Foott, rather than from Bridwell and Kor. According to Rich, he was pounding his hammer against the rock in a way that made it seem like he was pounding it against the rope while Foott was cleaning the pitch, as a sort of joke. Needless to say, Foott didn't find it particularly funny, and they came down. The climb became known thereafter as "Foot's Folly," later simply "The Folly."
