Last Sunday up here in Washington I was out climbing and it started raining so my GF and I drove around on some roads to check some stuff out. Like many climbers I have spent a lot of time out in the woods, deseret, mountains and have seen some cool animals. But this was a shocker. Two wolf cubs about 16" tall. Wolves have been spotted in the North Cascades but I was way south of there. I have been in contact with the FS and trying to get in touch with F&G. The USFS was not too surprised and are going to go check it out. These pics aint too clear but I was lucky to get anything at all. It was dumping rain and they were headed away from me in thick timber. This was by far the coolest thing. No sign of Mom or the pack. A biologist told me that it is difficult to tell if it is a hybrid or not. The USFS are gong to check it out.

That there BigFoot photo is a hoax.
If you look real close, you can see Sasquatch is wearing a wrist-watch.

I just nabbed the last of five feral kittens living out back in some juniper bushes (pricklius satanicus). It was an epic week-long struggle of man against beast.
Anyone want one? I'll Fedex it to you.

Feral cats and lawn chemicals are rapidly wiping out the songbird populations. A sad state of affairs.

Here's a little feller we ran into out in the Superstition Mountains a little over ten years ago. He scared the living sh*t out of me (they hiss very loud). After he scared me, he was on the move sort of away from me. He ran into the rock wall we were planning to climb, and just started up. He was edging on 5.10 territory, easily, no stealth rubber at all.
Wish my slide scanner was better, but it blows.

Hey Russ,
I can tell by your posts that your obviously enjoying your "vacation" huh?
Get up in the morning, start cruising the Taco...make a few witty posts...crack a brew...
So how is it different from when your NOT on vacation?
Please advise.
BTW: That photo is obviously a fake... I've never worn my gorilla suit in the woods.

steel, you ever climb at pinnacle peak in the late 80s to 90s? There was a 8 or 9ish crack that had a Gila monster living there. Scared the crap out of me. Couple yrs later some guys told me that thing lived there for many years!
whoooaaaa, scary.

I really like the vertical gila monster steelmonk. Where was that?
In the mid/late 80's there was a Chuckwalla that frequented the Y-crack, a gila monster that was a regular player at a tiny crag on troon mtn (now someone's back yard) and another one at the trailhead parking area at the ahwatukee entrence to So mtn park. Also, I encountered bats in sidewinder more than once. I've got some pictures of desert tortoise encounters in that general area, but that 'sketchy' guide book guy made some convincing points about not disturbing them. So I'll leave 'em in the hard disk

Visiting an unfamiliar limestone sport crag, silent that day, just three of us. I'm near pumping out on something steep when I spot a big hueco above, just big enough to drape elbows into and grab a breather.
Then a sudden explosion of fur and movement from the hole, and something came rushing right out of the hueco, past my head, shocking the holyfrigginshitwhatwuzzat?? out of me. I turned, expecting to see a bat the size of a bear, or something too big to fly, but it was just a flying squirrel, spread out and sailing quietly through the trees as the three of us let out a simultaneous "whoaaa!!" It was two or three feet long.
Then he started showing off, climbed a tree and sailed back down three times. Cool.

Oarfish - as close as we know of a real 'sea-serpent'.
Deep-sea Goblin shark.
Prickly Shark
Evermanella - I think they are called?
Hallucigenia - extinct (I think) but wayyy cool.
Mesopelagic/hadal species are NEATO-SKEATO!

Yup, sure did. Wasn't a gila monster, though, it was a huge chuckawalla as far as I know. The route was Lizard's Lip on the Lower East Wall. When we first encountered it, it was sorta scary, but after a while, if we didn't hear it scraping around in there while we were climbing past, we'd be like "hmmm...wonder where the lizard is..."
J-bro: Superstitions, the rock was the Iceberg.
Brutus was just playing with some bats up at Paradise Forks a few weeks ago. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!
