Almost all dog owners are SLAVES and do not even know it. Dogs are more needy than even children. At least children go to school, play at friends houses, stay with grandma and eventually grow up and do their own stuff. If you get a dog you will NEVER have even one day of your life completly free. You Must provide for you dogs many needs every day without exception. You will NEVER get up and just do whatever the heck you darn well please without dealing with when and where will the dog go to the bathroom, where and when will it get exersize, will it be safe from cars, getting lost, getting into dog fights, chaseing deer , getting into porccupines, barking at people. Will it have enough food and water and be in a safe place that is not too hot or too cold. Will your dog be allowed in the park or campground or hotel? when will you pick up the dog sh#t and where will you put it?
If you live on a large farm in the country it is much easier but for most people being owned by a dog is one of the most controling factors in their life.
My sister for instance has over 800 cows. The dog has 1500 acres to chill on and is the least of her worries. For most of the rest of us the dog is the decideing factor in what, when and where we are allowed to do or be on any given day.
Yeah, I know, you all are going to call me a dog hater but that is only because I see through the charade and understand the dogs. Many of you will hate me because I remind you of how little freedom you actually have.. many of you will hate me simple because you love your dog so much you have no clue that you are a slave. Some of you will hate me because the truth hurts. Some of those dogs are my friends, some I don't like much. but I undersatnd all of them quite well.

So, no kids and no dog tradman?
Seems like a whole nother facet of life and personal development you're not experiencing.
Not that that's a bad thing...

Got pleanty of dogs in my life. some of them I like a lot but am thankfull that I get to enjoy them and still go climbing. Also have one now grown up child in my life. Not connected by birth but by being with her mom from the age of 7-18.
I do have a cat who is totally free. comes and goes as he pleases and requires vituraly no supervision or pampering. I also work on a construction crew with many dogs and get to witness on a daily basis how much they control their humans lifes.
Oh yea. the new Gf has a Blue heeler that is not a good crag dog......

I know who the boss is.
They don't clean up after me.
They don't feed me.
But they do let me drive the truck most of the time.
They do keep most crazy people out of camp.

Depends on where you live and what you want from life. I know some people who desperatly want a human lover yet they give all their love to their dogs and have none left over for a human. I know others who have a lover that they neglect and treat much worse than they treat a strangers dog.. In some life situations a dog is both a perfect companion and contributes to the tribe. In some life situations the dog is a crutch and the #1 reason that person does not grow meanifull human relationships. In most situations the dog is a mooch who pays no rent, never cleans up after itself and is incredably needy. In almost all situations the dog ownes the humans and controls their behavior...

ANY relationship involves making compromises. The satisfaction my dog brings far outweighs any minor inconveniences. Having dogs is a lifestyle. Not for everyone. But the WAY for many.
I have always felt way more owned by the idea of material possession than anything else. Being a home owner. Now that is being owned.

This is a rather odd thread(well, the OP perspective is, anyway).
What are you so angry over?
I love my Teddy, I have room in my heart for more than just him. I willingly submit myself to his care. I knew I would be committing to his care when I decided to bring a dog into my life. It has been a very small sacrifice to make for all I get in return. For one thing, Teddy has introduced me to so many people who I never would have been comfortable interacting with had he not been there to act as a buffer.
I am sorry you have some upset about a dog, or a person's relationship with a dog. I just hope you don't do what a lot of jealous people do and take the resentment out on the innocent animal.
On an aside......
//Almost all workerss are SLAVES and do not even know it. Bosses are more needy than even children. At least children go to school, play at friends houses, stay with grandma and eventually grow up and do their own stuff. If you get a job you will NEVER have even one day of your life completly free. You Must provide for you job's many needs every day without exception. You will NEVER get up and just do whatever the heck you darn well please without dealing with when and where will the boss sh#t on your project, where and when will they get jazzed about some lame idea and insist you get on it immediately, will your job be safe from the ass-kissing new hire, paperwork getting lost, getting into power struggles, chaseing the book keeper for your expense check, getting stabbed in the back, barking at people. Will it pay enough to buy food and water and be in a safe place that is not too hot or too cold. Who will care for your dog while you are on business trips, and will your boarding expenses be reimbursed? when will you pick up the sh#t your supervisor leaves for you to deal with and where will you put it, since there is no sytem in place?

Hey cms, if you're gonna go around correcting folks on spelling and whatnot, and I do NOT have a problem with that, make sure you remember apostrophes in your contractions:
its chasing deer
It is chasing deer = It's chasing deer.
Just saying.

Happi. Not angry, I just see though the the layers and get down to the basics fairly accuratly. Might have somthing to do with the 4th dan? So much time spent learning about humans lets me read dogs and human relations accuratly.
yes. Work in fact makes you a slave. 100% agreed! Now if that job is nessicary to pay for room board and healthcare for the dogs;) Most dogs get better health care than the 20million uninsured americans in this country.
As for walks in nature, you see a heck of a lot more natural wildlife when your dog is not chaseing it away.
All you dog people are so thouroughly owned that you are no longer even aware of the extent of your slavery. Heck I lived with a wild Asian lepord cat hybrid for 9 years and had no clue what a chore it was and how much that thing controlled my life. You can not see these things clearly when you are caught up in them..
