I'm just a has been wanker. But do you realize how many people have abandonded this forum because of the political spray?
We are closing in on 6,000 posts on the Reublicans are Always Wrong thread. That means we are closing in on 6,000 threads that may or may not be climbing related have been pushed down the page.
Trip reports, personal needs for support, whatever. All gone to the second page so you can spew politics.

Skully, I don't mind them blowing off, what pisses me off is the quality posts are pushed down the page and get lost. If there was a separate forum, cool! Spray all they want. But that frikking thread has dominated the taco and pushed too many good threads into oblivion.

What I choose to do is scroll back or do a search for worthy treads and bump 'em back to life. Dosen't solve the problem but eases the pain somewhat.

A lot of this your fault. Not you personally but the forum members.
They keep voting down making a separate tab putting all off topic stuff in that place.
The front page would be just like it always is right now with a tab on top "OFF TOPIC"
In the beginning there will still be some threads still started in the main climbing topics only place and the self moderation will howl and scream at those offenders to get their sh!t in the "OFF TOPIC" area.
It will work and is the best compromise and solution.
People you really need to do this unless you want to remain stubborn fools.
But that is what seems to be the norm here.
You need a place for the off topic people to go to just as in our real outside world we provide different areas for different activities.
Example: Red light district for that stuff ..... :-)
But in the end, whatever, do what ya need to do.
Either fix it or go on ranting and raving as I don't care what you people do.
None of it bothers me .....

That math doesn't add up. If those threads had worthy subjects, they'd get a bump from a second post. Also, the Political thread only uses one slot, which is quite an accomplishment that we have had more discipline to keep most politics in one place.
The fact is, certain subjects just don't generate much debate and nothing is going to change that. It's always something controversial (wings of steel, South face of Half Dome) that gets people talking and the vitrol on those threads has driven people away too.
That's the way we roll on Supertopo, which used to be far more vitriolic than even now. We are a community and we have community subjects like helping people out or sounding out kindred spirits on the issues of our time and politics relate to many of those issues.
Those who would like more climbing topics might do well to ask some deeper questions about our sport which could bring out real contributions that would engage (or enrage) people.
But politics and Religion are always going to be big subjects because they speak to basic issues on our life

John - the mere fact that there are 6000 posts should tell you something. I don't want to post there cause Dr F has proven he doesn't give a sh#t about anyone else by deleting the first post that had 40,000 whatevers. I'd rather post here, cause people who see that subject so black and white, that is, wankers like Dr F, are too stupid to listen to real facts anyway.
