After 20+ years of climbing I ended up pulling the ultimate rookie move by falling with the rope behind my leg.I fell about twenty feet, head first, and slammed into the wall resulting in a collapsed lung, punctured spleen, chipped vertabrae, and four broken ribs.Several folks helped extricate me from the Gorge(litter and all).Apparently I lost about five quarts of blood internally and am lucky to be writing this.I just want to HUGELY thank all the folks who helped extricate me.Thank you very much. This was also a reminder about how great the climbing community is.You guys rule!!!Thanx again.Kirk Sager,Bishop,ca.

Get well quick bro.
Sorry to hear about the woes. I had a first after 33 yrs of climbing. Mangled finger, and the chunk I pulled off broke my partners arm. I ended up upside down also, but not because of the rope. I was high stepping when the hold broke and I launched out backward. Yikes.
Heal fast.

Nice on you Cragman and Flanders
The only places I'd seen or heard of litters was down at Suicide and at the Needles.
A definite indicator of climbers trying to take care of themselves.
good story and follow up capt.

Kirk, a speedy recovery to you!
Cragman - I didn't know the history of how the litters were put in the Gorge, thank you (a late thank you!) for orchestrating. I've helped carry someone out on one of them (they're heavy!). Hope I never need one myself but it is nice to know they're down there.
