Tried to respond to a post yesterday, and that is the auto response i got.

It appears that i have been banned.

Auto response also gave an e mail address to contact w/questions. I sent an e mail, but got no response.

Do moderators generally ban without any contact?

The poster formally known as Zip.

Maybe ..you were a bit too crude on the thread you put up yesterday...

Crude,(krood) (of language, behavior, or a person) offensively coarse or rude, esp. in relation to sexual matters : a crude joke. See note at rude .

My truth....... i didn't complain..but... i did not think it was funny..

dang, number #13.

Nita,

thx for your input.

no offense was intended, but yes it was crude.

if someone really took offense to it, i wish they would have contacted me, and i would have deleted it.

not to make excuses, but due to injuries received in a motorcycle versus truck accident, i am confined to a chair, and my bed. just bored, frustrated, and a little pissed off right now.

sorry if i offended.

it was mirror thread to a thread about heroin. the original heroin thread was taken down. not surprised that the mirror thread followed.

and i am not surprised that owners of this site-- whose purpose is, after all, to market climbing guides and instructional manuals to a heavily newby audience that includes youngsters and gym moms --yanked both those threads.

honestly, i'm surprised by how much snakepit stuff c-mac allows on here. this place has become a freak show. at some point, the calculation that brand damage outweighs brand benefit is going to happen.

You cannot search on words with only 3 letters. So I can't pull up the problem thread easily. Next time go by zzip?

i don't have an issue with the thread being deleted, if it was generally considered offensive.I think it was far tamer than a lot of the garbage that gets posted here.

i just don't think i should have been banned, but it is not my rules or my site, so be it.

think if i ate 50 Ambien, that would do the trick?

What a fine looking chap, appearing to be smart, compassionate, with Democratic leanings, too, I might add.

No way should he be "deactivated" permanently.

Maybe for a day is all. Or two days to really rub in the salt.

My 2 cents.

.....

Oh, and while we're at it, imho, anyone who EVER EVER post a picture of a pile of poop on supertopo should be deactived for a month, minimum. Tittays okay.

One option A) would be when posts get really bad, start a dialogue. Write out emails that detail how people have been inappropriate and remind people what the forum policy is and what the rules are. Give two week bans. Follow up. Repeat when the person tries to push the edge again. Generally spend time policing.

But the other option, B) that so far we think works best, is to keep a pretty open forum. Tolerate some stuff in the gray area, but when things go CLEARLY over the line, ban the account.

The problem with the policing model is it takes lots of time. We are a tiny company. We work on a shoe-string budget to make the site as good as we can. There are a lot of things we want to do to improve the site to make it better for you all. If we spent time policing the forum, it would take away from that.

How about a warning first, then people will know exactly what they did and why it was inappropriate.

Dmt I don't know what is inappropriate cause some is allowed while something else offended the wrong person.
