Which is your choice as the best climbing town in America? Or maybe you have another idea.

Telluride. Close to IC, and the Towers, and close to Ouray.

best climbing town in America?

what does "climbing" mean here?

as a boulderer i'd take flag over anywhere in na. maybe even over bleau. props to the locals for not letting it get pimped like bishop.

for mountains, now that you can put plastic in the basement to stay in shape during the wet season, i'd still take b'ham. biggest downsides'd be the airport and the bushwacking, but the north cascades still has really wild places. and there's genuinely good food.

if i were a comp climber, boulder.

if i were a skier, or a mormon, salt lake.

Now for the real business,
Moorcroft or Hulet?

I'd go Hulet. closer to the blackhills and the tower.

Nah, Douglas has both of them beat; it's equally far to the DT, Vedauwoo, Fremont Canyon, Sweetw#ter Rocks, and Needles, RMNP, and Boulder are farther still....

But Wyoming has the highest suicide rate in the USA.

Does it have that many people from Sweden?

I know that there is a strong anti-Boulder bias on ST and I admit that i moved from Boulder to Ouray 7 years ago but, everything considered, I think it's the best climbing town in the States.

Yeah, it's too precious for words and about as whitebread as you can get, but there are some great people there and the proximity to awesome climbing is unrivaled.

Donini-

I'd have to agree. More climbs accessible than anywhere else. Flatirons, Eldo, Boulder Canyon, RMNP, etc.

I vote Boulder----given a gun to my head.

I moved from Idaho to a 100% Mormon neighborhood in the southern subburbs of SLC in 1983.

Too dumb, to consider demographics: I moved up close to the start of the “ski canyons.”

Despite my being comfortable with Mormon culture: I soon discovered Non-Mormon Fritz & wife were black people in a “whitie” neighborhood.
The highway traffic was disturbing, but then came the smog.
Only by going to the mountains could you escape months of winter-time smog.

I escaped back to Idaho the next year.

It is a great place, but it needs 2 million less people to be livable for me.

omg is this 4 real??
boulder the BEST climbing in US?
as a dedicated internet follower, i was pretty sure it was the WORST!

I dunno:
on one hand, climbing here has always seemed pretty good at least to your humble hacker,
on other, maybe there's a reason why when u go to a good climbing area within 1000 miles, 1/2 the people are from boulder.

having only ever visited, I'd probably take Boulder over SLC if forced to live in those places.

Otherwise, going with Sunny Slopes. Just need some folks to move out first so I can move in.

That Barstow idea, not so far fetched, except for summers.

You don't want to hear this: Los Angeles is the best climbing city. Not too far from Yosemite and Joshua Tree, plenty of Sierra climbs plus lots of miscellaneous climbing.

Plus the food here is really good.

I could go on but I know you don't want to hear it.
