get your panties in a bunch and start a thread to ban pate.
pate, banned.
then you delete the thread that bans him?
this is like washing your hands after a lynching cuz you don't want to be associated with it anymore?
meanwhile, the entire "ban pate" thread was not really about pate, now was it?
it was about a psychotic poster who threatens other ST users when that psychotic poster doesnt get his way...
normally, i dont really care about deleting threads. but the ban pate thread was a fine example of one individual's sick and demented behavior towards others and the length's that the demented one would go to getting "his way".
somthing is definitely effed up here when pate gets banned but someone who threatens others livelihood and wellness is not. pathetic.

Member profile information for Pate is shown below. This member's account has been deactivated.
i think the above happened yesterday.
i just got to say that this place is really messed up when you get banned for insults, yet threats of violence and threats of messing with your employer is fine.
BTW, i dont have anything against radical or deleting threads. but if radical's thread did ban pate, he should have kept it up to illustrate the behavior of the psychotic poster who was threatening others...

Oh sh#t, that's too bad ekat.
I'm glad radical nuked it. Normally I'm not in favor of thread nuking but that one was just a sad ugly hate fest. I'm glad it's gone.

Whoa eKat. That blows!
It's a really good thing to remind us of just where we are and what we are doing.
The most innocent words can be misconstrued and the most threatening words as well.
The problem with the "virtual campfire" is, a certian element you would never allow at your real campfire is welcomed with open arms.
Thanks for the reminder, the advice you received about documenting everything is sound.

I only looked at that thread twice, but what i saw when i looked was a bunch of nasty stuff about werner quoted on post one and pegged to the top of the FP of this site by hundreds of non-sequitors from the "outraged". I missed the other psycho part. If i were in werner's shoes, i'd be glad it went away.

ekat,
you are one of the most decent posters on this site. i don't remember anything that you have ever done to receive such crap.....
so the question becomes, if someone is banned for insults (medussa, pate) should someoen be banned for threats of physical violence? and what are the "unwritten" rules of st for getting banned?
there, id did it. climbers talking about rules and social norms. pretty effed up IMHO....
clearly, the nutjob bothering ekat is violating those.

I for one am glad that thread is gone. Should have been deleted around day 3 or 4 IMO before it got so out of hand.
I agree Dingus... just don't be a dick.
We've all got our moments when we aren't so nice, but when vicious negative attacks become the norm for every single thing you post to the internet... I say you should get a time-out at the very least. There was a time when Pate was not such a force of negativity every single day. Perhaps he can be invited back at some point when he's chilled out a bit?
EKat thread drift: IMO- yes- this sort of cyber-stalking and threats should definitely be a valid reason to be banned. I would think you could submit proof privately to the powers-that-be if you are keeping copies and get him banned from this particular site.

Wow...
Talk about censorship.
I feel that I cannot say a thing on this subject. If I fall on one side I get banned for supporting a free speech issue. If I fall on the other, I run the risk of being stalked by a nut.
Not that anything I say should be cause for ill feelings, I mean, I can rant about the worse party for days, but this all means nothing and I recognize that.
This is a forum.
All voices are welcome whether they be good or bad.
Public shunning does so much to change perspectives.
Rather than banning, just don't respond, and certainly don't take anything posted here personally. I try, and it's difficult not to sometimes, but I keep coming back to see those TRs, and the stories about overcoming obstacles.
It all means nothing in the overall scheme of things.
How many of us, on our death beds, will be thinking about getting just one last post in on the taco. And how pathetic is that?
Life too short.
We are a civilization, are we not?
Does that automatically mean we're doomed?
I look for alternative outcomes.

10b,
That's a big maybe. I think the fact that it is being addressed is the first step towards keeping it in check.
Some of the non-climbing discussions here can be informing and eloquent.
I'd hate to lose that.
If enough folks protest, it is obvious to me that it has an affect on who is allowed to post here. Unfortunately, being "banned" doesn't do a whole lot to keep the determined psycho from coming back.
This is a good reminder to think about what one posts before one hits the "post" button.
In carpentry it's "measure twice, cut once" here it should be "read twice (or more), post once"
I think this is an important rule to avoid revealing too much about one's personal info and providing ammo to the twisted element.

I give RJ sh*t once in awhile, but he doesn't go off on me because I don't get all pitbull about it.
I'm not down on radical, I'm not down on RJ, I'm down on banning.
The way RJ obsesses about stuff on here, imagine how much traffic CMac and the admins got out of him.
He'll say he didn't, but my money is otherwise.....

Interesting that Radical deleted his thread- one that he, in all humility, proclaimed was the only interesting one on ST.
