A recent rant by Rush Limbaugh lends credence to this view:

"The four corners of deceit: government, academia, science and media. Those institutions are now corrupt and exist by virtue of deceit. That's how they promulgate themselves; it is how they prosper."

It became obvious during the Bush II administration as they were exposed to be suppressing scientific studies that supported climate change and green technology benefits. Now it seems that the extremists of the Right are becoming more vocal in their disdain of intelligence and thoughtful discourse.

It seems the Murdoch/Rove/NeoCon strategy is to scare the less educated masses to the voting booth by creating distrust of science and intelligence. Can it be a good long term strategy for the country to use the lower part of the curve as your voter base? Personally, I'd rather have thoughtful, intelligent people running the country than fear-motivated, knee jerk, uncritical robots.

Why do you pay attention to Limbaugh? Of all people.

When was the last time Limbaugh said anything intelligent?

The right wing is not completely anti-science....they love to search out scientist that practice bad science and support what big oil or the anti-stem cell jack-waggon crew want to broadcast to the fear-mongering voters...rj

The right wing are totally anti-science

they make a mockery of it, at their peril

Evolution, God, Global climate change, abstinence only sex education, creation science

and 1000 other anti-science stances

remember the Republican debate in 2008, not one person would say they believed in evolution

They have easily duped the masses with their media driven race to the bottom, we will be like Saudi in a couple years if we let them have power again

I wouldn't put the whole right wing in the same bag, but I really doubt that Rush or Sarah know what a falsifiable hypothesis is.

I'd love to be proven wrong, ha, ha!

Another thing the right do to keep ignorance going is indoctrinate their young. This is one of the vilest components of their agenda if you ask me.
I remember our church bringing a "scientist" in to talk about how evolution was wrong. They told us all kinds of BS about dinosaurs and evolution. I was excused from sex ed in high school. Etc.
Cultism is alive and well in your friendly neighborhood church.

How then did a majority-Christian nation manage to put a Man On The Moon ( when nobody else has ) ?

And nobody else can.

Rush Limbaugh? You've got to be kidding!

You obviously haven't talked to many REAL scientists, and RL himself is a Whack Job.

Most professional scientists are anywhere from slightly conservative right wing on many topics to pretty extreme right. I've worked as a professional laboratory chemist and research director most of my adulthood, and am considered by most acquaintences as EXTREMELY RIGHT WING! I'm not anything like what Rush describes, and am NOT a religious whack job, either. Neither are most others with similar political/social views.

Limbaugh is a self interested windbag. When you venture out on either "wing" you are probably going to find some pretty silly notions as the term right wing or left wing denotes some amount of extremism.

With this semantic nightmare in mind, the issue is then vastly complicated by whom you assign the designation of "right wing". The broader the brush used to paint the picture, the more inaccurate it will be (unless you are of the opinion that over generalizations are acceptable when applied to people you generally find yourself disagreeing with).

BDC,(if you are a x-tian) you are the cultist I describe. every day folk who follow pre-described paths of "knowledge" in the name of good. Unwittingly brainwashing their children into bigoted, closed minded zealots who will eventually become you and vote for Sarah Palin....
If your kids don't question your religion, why would they question a political figure who claims to share your beliefs? And so the world churns.

A major study of the political orientation, party affiliation, socio-political views of American University Professors was done by Neil Gross and Solon Simmons in 2007.

According to their study humanities and social sciences professors trended toward the liberal. However, among physical science and life science research professors… more fit into the “political moderate” definition than either liberal or conservative.

This study surveyed university professors and high level researchers in academia rather than scientists in the government contract or private industrial sector.

The right is anti everything. They are directly responsible for our country no longer being the cutting edge in creativity and development of new technologies. They promote fear and self centered hatred of all who do not think like them.

Dr. F- Then why did our "progressive" president O cancel the Ares/Orion return man to the Moon project? I'm fully supportive of space exploration, genetic research, ethical stem cell research, and almost all advanced biological and medical research. The FDA should be castigated for the restrictions involving therapeutic stem cell treatments, when it is used in Germany, Switzerland, and even China! My neighbor had to go to Mexico for a treatment not officially recognized in the USA.

Those who object to our Christian-based ethical and legal system should maybe live under Sharia Law in a Muslim country for a while. One does not have to be a religious right whack job to know the difference between right and wrong, either.

That is an issue, the constitution requires a seperation of church and state in this country.

Chinchen-
Don't presume to know my religious views or those of my children and then infer that I'm a bigot. I consider myself conservative from an analysis of the surrounding world, not from any political or spiritual leaders telling me what to believe. Do I believe in Evolution: yes. Did I force my children to get indoctrinated in church: no.
