Hi all,

Hiked to the Hulk yesterday to get some exercise and to check on the conditions up there:

Sure enough, the Wilderness Sign was moved closer to the campground and trailhead:

A well-worn trail is nice sometimes. Aspens haven't leafed out yet:

The important cairn on steroids not to be missed. Cut down to the river here for log crossing:

Mother Nature felled another tree across Robinson Creek. Now there's really no reason to get your feet wet on the crossing. Unless that is what you want:

Looking down on the location to cross if you DON'T want to get your feet wet:

Looking down on the location to cross (further west) if you DO want to get your feet wet:

Looking up Little Slide Canyon. Not much talus today. Nice!

Beginning to feel the presence of the Hulk:

Getting higher, looking down:

No post-holing at all. Feeling lucky:

Really feeling the Hulk's presence now. Note the snow chute to the left. Which is the destination.

And now even more:

Now I'm up at the camping area:

I decided to go ahead. The plan is to circumnavigate the beast. Clockwise.

Darn. The circumnavigate plan didn't work out. No gaitors or gloves. Jean bottoms getting wetter. Legs and lungs have had plenty. Oh, well, time to move on.

A last look. Up the Hulk from the base:

Snow everywhere at the base. Some climbers cotton to snow, others not so much:

Well, time to get back. Weather seems to be moving in. Hope to see you again soon, Mr.!

A little fun on the way down, boot skiing. This convinced me this is the best reason to buy those ridiculous shortie skis.

If this was all too much memory usage or too much beta, let me know, I'll remove some. Don't want to be a spoiler!

Happy climbing this summer all.

P.S. Start time at car: 10:30am. End time at car: 3:30pm. 5 hours total. A most excellent cardiovascular workout. This morning, lungs feel good and stretched. :)

Radical- Here's the point forecast I use:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=38.12321381072632&lon=-119.4173526763916&site=rev&smap=1&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text

The climbs appeared dry to me. But that said there would be snow up top on the 3rd class traverse to the last pitch almost certainly.

C Chopper- Interesting post, don't know you, not sure how to interpret it. The appproach to the Hulk is hardly any secret. This TR was only to report on conditions for 2 June 2010 as I experienced them.

Footloose- I'd not read too much into Choppers comments. Had to be tongue in cheek...after all the Hulk is hardly a secret anymore than any other High Sierra Route.
