Ska Maria Pastora, the diviner's sage, the magic mint, Salvia divinorum
which reveals unseen folding of space and time, reconnection with the past, awareness of the present, glimpses into the future
an analgesic, anaesthetic, kaleidoscopic entheogenic
from which was isolated the intriguing chemical salvinorin-a
with potency approaching that of Hoffman's problem child, mere micrograms
but did not appreciably bind with any known receptor sites of the human brain
when radiolabeled, gave rise to the discovery of the previously unknown k-opioid receptor.
a hallucinogenic opioid?
hypnotic, undeniably, though not sleep inducing
and neither sedative nor stimulant.
it is.
...or so I've heard.

Some sushi guy looked at me on Salvia with wide eyes, and said:
"It's not supposed to do that!"
I didn't feel much except for a light euphoria - but I had been drinking, as usual, and I hear that alcohol diminishes the effect.

Amazing. Not for parties or kicks, but lonesome special occasions.
Get your hands on some kratom and have a nice nap.

Still legal huh? 1st time, barely felt it. 2nd time, upped the dose and found myself looking at myself from inside the tv. Couple with drooling and hysterical laughter, and you've got a mighty strange experience! Not something I'd wanna do very often.

at least it only lasts for 5 min.
not something that you just do for fun. (unless believing that you don't exist is fun)

Definitely more than a recreational drug.
It took a few tries but it eventually launched me into another universe; I had no idea where I was, how I got there, or even who I was.
Scary strong stuff, but educational.

It seems to scare the crap out of most folks, but for me it was completely hysterical, with the feeling of being in an off kilter gyroscope. Crazy, and even though I drooled all over the place, pretty amusing.

Definitely different from the hippie lettuce.
It grabs you by the ass mighty fast, and you just goooo.
I second the hysterical laughter, and each time I've done it, my face has felt prickly, like when it gets really cold.
Things I've experienced/been told of:
A cartoon room being built around me
Plastic army men holding me down (not creepy, just weird)
My friends turning into a giant see 'n say in the sky
Waterslide, but with lights
One guy had a bad trip, thought gorillas were beating the sh#t out of him
Guy thought the whole world was made out of lego
...lots more.
It's fun stuff, and it does last for just a little. I wouldn't make a huge habit of it, but it's fun to do if someone has it.

I also have a lot of experience with psychedelics and other strange substances, and yes, salvia is some weird, wild, hairball stuff. If it lasted longer, I'm not sure you could tell, as it seems to really distort time for me. Not a recreational or meditative drug, that's for sure. I have only done it two or three times and I still have some somewhere, and I might do it again or not.

I've dabbled a bit with salvia. First couple times were mild, 5 minute fits of laughter; shiny things appearing to float; while watching "Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle" I was dropped right in the back seat of the car with Neal Patrick Harris. Finally one occasion I found the true strength, reality took on a new meaning and I questioned everything and everyone I knew. Things took on a new hue of orange with purple dots. Thoughts were flying through my head to fast to articulate so parts of words flew out of my mouth in no recognizable language. I thought to myself, maybe this is how life really was and I was just blind to it. All in all its a fun experience, just be prepared to blow your own mind.

When you really have a powerful Salvia experience...
You realize it plays with you, you don't play with/within it.
Powerful (Salvia) experiences usually incorporate very graphic and geometric hallucinations as well as some feeling of being stuck, like to a wall or in a box. Some people talk about being pushed or waved around by a force so large that you have to literally just ride it out in submission. Usually there is no real sense of time or a real distortion of it.

Weird sh#t and not my bag.
Not really enjoyable nor enlightening for me.
Maybe in moderation?
But what fun is moderation?

TrundleBum, you hit the nail on the head there. It has given me the sensation of being a prisoner in a cell, one of many cells each holding its own intelligence, that comprise some larger organism. The organism walked around while we were all stuck there, unable to control our fates. In addition there is usually a disembodied voice telling me that this is in fact the real world, and my previous life was only illusion.
Terrifying really, but something to meditate on.

It's gnarly, and I'd never recommend it to a lightweight. Only for people who have prior experience with hallucinogens and controlling the ride. If you've done DMT, it's similar, except the intensity of Salvia is nearly impossible to regulate, the size and speed of your inhalation dictate the intensity of the experience.
I stick with the sticky-icky, in fact, I just got high.

I had an extreme experience with this herb! After the wall I was looking at swirled into oblivion, I entered another dimension (or I entered into the awareness of another dimension). It was very scary on a deep gut level. I felt as if something was pulling me into the earth or into this other dimension.
I came to with my arms and legs wrapped tightly around a pine tree in my friend's front yard. The tree was the only thing keeping me from being folded into the soil.
I felt shaken for at least an hour afterwards. A strange sense of betrayal was also there. It was as if I had seen that what we experience every day is an illusion, no, a trick. I know others who report a similar feeling of being tricked.
I would recommend a light dose at first . . .
