I know there's some of you on here who can't wait for the festivities to commence in June. So let's hear it.

Can Spain finally pull it off? Or England, Holland, anyone new ... maybe.. please?

U.S. chances? I think they'll be fortunate to make it out of the group, Confederations cup and all.

You happy to just watch highlights or are you TiVo'ing it?
Anyone willing to miss a climbing weekend to watch a match or 2?

Or.. are all matches fixed and this is all just another example of corporate brain-washing, exploiting 3rd world countries, we shouldn't like sports/tv yada yada yada. Feel free to chime in too.

Brazil, with Kaka & Ronaldinho, will be hard to beat. Spain has probably the best goalie, Casillas, and defender Puyol is such a workhorse at both ends of the pitch. Don't forget Messi with Argentina. Those are my top 3 picks to be in the final.

The US Soccer Federation set a goal many years ago that they were targeting the 2010 world cup to win. I will be supporting them, but IMHO they will be lucky to make the final 4.

Mucci, dude....

I'll be baching it in Durham this summer while Yosguns is working on her Valley form. You should come visit me. Most North Carolina 5 star uber-classics(Yeah ... there are plenty) have the same wait on a sunny Saturday as Crunchy Corner/Fuzzy Bunny on a Tuesday in November.

Ok, back to the World Cup;)

Tradster,...

Final 4???? That'll be the day. Not that I won't be pulling for them.

Messi is indeed a freak of nature, but Argentina as a whole is just not in '86 form. Spain has both individual talent and cohesion, at least that's what it looked like in the last few tournaments. Of course, that has been the case before...

Honestly I'll be happy if it's not Italy.

The USA has the two proverbial chances. They'll be lucky to tie one game.
Brasil should always win although they looked bad 4 years ago.
Messi is on a roll and he has plenty of help if the hotheaded Argentines can play as a team.
Spain will be tough although they might depend too much on Torres.
The Dutch could be the dark horse. They know how to play as a team.
England has no chance; Rooney doesn't have the pace any more.

I hate to say it but I look for an Argentina/Spain final.

My heart would prefer my wife's Lions Indomptables de Cameroun vs Brasil.

TT, I agree except I hate the Argentine whiners and divers. With their talent they don't need to play that way. I do like Messi, Tevez, and Lisandro; they're not such whiners.

U.S has at least a decent chance of making out of the group stage. Algeria can be tough, so can Slovenia, but it's no "group of death." Argentina, unfortunately (and I hope not!), is ruined by its manager. Too bad, because Messi is an amazing talent.

France is looking bad. Hopefully not Italy and their boring "tactical" play. A pox on that awful defensive style!

Germany and the Dutch are strong dark horses, but early money may be on Spain.

United States has a chance to top the group I'd say. If we play our game we may be able to take some points from the England match and Slovenia and Algeria though tough matches, I believe we can beat them.

I wouldn't count out Germany either. They are a top international side and haven't won a trophy in over 10 years so they are hungry. And considering they finished 2 in 2002 and finished 3rd in 2006 its a good bet that they will be in the semi finals again.

don't forget Zanetti & Veron

here's maradona & messi

I agree Germany has a good team but I dislike their style of play...like having 8 goalies on the pitch...they play not to lose

Carles Puyol for Spain always gives 100+%

The state of confusion

I saw Dempsey and Howard playing today in the Everton Fulham match
won by Everton via a penalty in stoppage time.

The US has some horses this year if they can keep healthy.
They beat Spain last summer and took Brasil (my favorite), to the
brink. They may not get into the final, but I'll bet they're
competitive.

TT, though Messi is class he has rarely replicated his club form to National team. I don't know what it is but Messi is never at his best with Argentina.

And on another note does anyone keep up with club football?

Argentina v. Spain would be a little morbid, because Messi would be playing against some of his team mates in Barça. I doubt that Argentina will make it to the final, though. Spain might.

Steve W. I watched that same game. I've been watching alot of BPL this year. With Dempsey on FFC and Donovan having played earlier this year for Everton I made a point of keeping an eye on both these teams. Donovans' stay at Everton was fantastic, fans loved him, often chanting "U S A" anytime he scored. He was also voted player of the month by Everton fans in January.

As far as the world cup goes, I see Spain dominating. I would like to see an African country do well.

Captn- I spend my early Sats. watching BPL. Did you catch Portsmouth Vs Tottham in the FA cup semi? Awesome!

One of the great things about living here is all the European football we get to watch...
Saw Barcelona play when I was in Spain this winter...SWEET!

Love to see Spain take it all!

Cheers.

mcreel - that's why it would be interesting...like Portugal VS England and Cristiano Ronaldo faces his Man U teammates OR when Henry played against his Arsenal teammates in the 2010 Champions League tournament. When these players have to play against their teammates they have to be more creative because their opponents know all their tricks. On the other hand, Henry admitted that it "terrified" him to play against Arsenal.

Brazil VS Spain in the final would be awesome...I want to see teams from different continents playing in the final..to see the clash of styles...
