I just paid $8 for a 24 ounce Sierra Nevada "Estate" brew.
Best 8 bucks I ever spent. Overpriced, of course, but very tasty for the connoisseurs out there. Very tasty.
I would prolly buy it again AND recommend it to a friend. This has been a beer review NOT sponsored by SuperTopo.
What say you?
EDIT: what makes it unusually tasty is that Sierra didn't over-hop it. It is hopped to perfection. They have had a tendency to hop the piss out of their beers to compete with Sam Adams, where Sammy always wins IMO, but this time Sierra wins.
Great beer! And apparently all the hops are grown on their "Estate" in Chico. Pretty cool, very tasty. F*#k you, Bavaria, and your over priced hops!!!!!!

Also, one of my favorite Stouts is Samuel Adams Cream Stout. It's hard to find in a drinkable date code, but if you do, try it. Tasty!!!!

Have you tried the Estate, Chaz?
Their Anniversary is a bit too hoppy for me. It's good and tasty, but a bit too much to drink more than one or two.
The Estate is better.

Beer prices are really interesting. The floor has fallen out and the roof has blown off and prices are falling to the basement and rocketing to the stratosphere.
If I can believe the signs I see in convenience store windows, the basic Bud/Miller stuff is essentially free. 18-can box for just a few dollars. And then there are the $50 and $70 bottles at my local specialty beer store.
Yup, it's strange. Some people will actually drink Bud Lite. Some other people will actually pay over $70 for single bottle of beer. $8 is pretty standard now for a 22 oz bottle of the good stuff from most craft breweries, and decent Belgian ales start at $9 for a 750 ml bottle.
Me? Well, the brewery I run in my basement produces beer as good as anything you can buy anywhere, and the price is next to nothing. Sitting close to hand as I type this is a big snifter of...

A buddy just stopped over my house on the way to climb with TLoydDavies at the gym. I treated him to some Makers Mark, of course, but we deliberated on the differences of Sativa and Indica strains and the hybrids. He ain't a huge pothead either.
We concluded that the Sativa strains, the quality ones, are were it's at. Sometimes a hybrid like Trainwreck is good too. Very gud!!!!
But I've always preferred the 'thinking' high of Sativas to the dopey high of newer Indicas.
How's that for keeping the potheads in the conversation????

Gary, I'm not a beer snob. I like PBR's or Heine's when I climb or camp. They go down easier in quantity...
I'm just sayin' there is a time to appreciate a really tasty brew too! Ya know?>??

Ghost, the "Dubbel Overhang" cracked me up.
Reminded me of that recon onsite of "Overly Hanging Out" (still with the pins 1994?) to accomodate a portaledge party safe from the rain....
We never did have that party, but we totally sussed the two apprach jug-lines. One far left, and the other at the easily approached half-way point. Man I miss the Lower, gotta go start a thread.

Who's tried the IPA from the Jolly Roger in Ballard, Seattle?
I think that's what the brewery is called, the beer was that good!
Regardless, good stuff.

The Estate is very tasty. Not only the hops grown on Sierra Nevada land, but barley as well.
Been working my way through a sixer of their Torpedo Extra IPA. Very tasty stuff and only $6.50 for a six pack here in UT.

Yeah, I didn't quite get the Sam Adams thing either. There are dozens of West Coast beers more hoppy than anything SA makes. They are not known for their IPAs.
