There ain't much ground left when those chutes pop open...

Yeah, its cracked all the way through and rocks a bit when you stand on it. Fairly frightening...
Wild stuff.

Sick video. Are there high tension power lines out there? What was the black dot in the sky in the background on a number of those shots.

Too funny!
I wondered if that capstone was going to stay when I stepped up on it.

That pegged the excitement meter!
If that sandstone pillar had tipped over back side...oh man! With the ropes
attached to the 2nd? Thrilling for everyone.

Nice! No, that wasn't the first time Ancient Art got jumped but the guy I was with, Mario, was the first one to open it. I might have been the third but not sure. It's a pretty technical jump, anything but an onhead opening would be pretty scary... and the landing is pretty tight too.

Oh, the black dot is the sun. Not sure why but the GoPro's always show a black dot when they get pointed towards the sun. Glad you guys like the video, they are a lot of fun to make, haa haa... Cheers!

Classic. This is the state of the art.
Climb. Jump. Fly. Repeat.
It's what dreams are made of.
(I'm envious, but I think I will stick to climbing and paragliding)
:-))

Ammon, does your stomach still lurch every time you step off one of those jumps?
The head mounted cam as one comes to the lip of the jump, is like being there somewhat. One wants to say "dude, don't step over.... THERRRRrrrrrrrre" as ya fly.
g'naw mean?

Coooooool stufffffffffff!!
I've always been intrigued by jumping off of cliffs ever since Rick Sylvester skied off the Captain BITD.
Way to go ElCapPirate, I have watched dozens of your vids.
The one where Mario does the roll-over was realy incredible!
And especially enjoyed the one with you and your son(his first el cap route).
And many others.
Keep posting...the only way many of us will be able to enjoy such great adventures anymore...thanks!!

I went in there with Phil Smith, around 85 or so, to check out the Fischers. We couldn't find any place to land that we thought we could get to. Back then we used the Para Innovators 52 inch drogue...pretty much the only big pilot chute you could get...on any slider down jump. They tugged so hard that your center cell would get pulled back. It was all kind of goofed together gear back then.
We checked out and passed on a lot of places. Even Castleton, because of the same glide ratio issues. Those 52 inch babies slowed you down so much that you landed very hard. Plus, the 7 cells were actually new tech at the time. First time I jumped El Cap, it was on a 5 cell StratoStar. Go google that one up.
Will Oxx finally put the desert spires on the map. We had a place in the four corners that is even better than Moab, but it is no more. I was fortunate enough to open up some big areas and objects, but the best of all got shut down by the greedy.
I wonder if I was lucky to get into BASE when it was young and new or unlucky because I missed out on all of the stuff you can do with it now.
Here is state of the art 1995. Original Vector container with a loose closing loop, slider down with no toggle mods, packed in a deployment bag, and the massive PI Pilot chute:
