Avg time to climb route: 1 day
Approach time: 30 minutes Descent time: 3 hours Number of pitches: 9 Height of route: 1000' Overview
FA: Brian Smoot, Les Ellison 4/1984.Cosmic Egg is 50 percent good quality C2 and 50 percent quality 5.8-5.10 free climbing. Most parties can do it in a day with an early start. It is a great winter option because of the short approach and easy retreat. After a spicy aid move on Pitch 1, the route climbs four pitches of steep and sustained C2. The upper pitches are all free at 5.10 or easier except for a short tricky aid section at the top. The original line climbs The Wormhole: two pitches of free and aid in a chimney. An all-free variation out left has some wild and exposed 5.9 and then some loose 5.7. Rack: see topo. Descent: rappel the route. Photos
