Hi all - it has been a few years since the last time any work was done to try to slow the expansion of the trail network around the Peabodies up in Buttermilk country. Of course, the last time, a whole lot of people showed up -

Also a few dogs.

So we are going to have another volunteer day on Saturday, April 18 - come spend the weekend in Bishop! Celebrate Earth Day, ski some spring corn, climb a few routes in the Gorge, boulder until your skin is gone...and help us out for a few hours.

That evening, Frank Sanders will be bringing his wonderful Devils Tower slideshow to Bishop as well.

Here is the official word -

Clean Up and Climb April 18

Buttermilk Boulders Volunteer Day & Slideshow

On Saturday, April 18, please join the Eastern Sierra Climbers Coalition for a day of fun bouldering, fulfilling volunteer work, and an evening of entertainment.

Buttermilk Cleanup 10am-1pm, April 18, Peabody Boulders, Buttermilk Country

The day will start with a morning of stewardship work around the famous Peabody boulders in Buttermilk Country. In partnership with the Access Fund and Friends of the Inyo, ESCC will bring climbers and members of the community together to clean up trash and debris in the area, and to help limit the expansion of the network of trails between the boulders.

The morning’s work will run from 10am to 1pm; volunteers should meet at the “borrow pit” just south of the bouldering area, on Buttermilk Rd. _ miles from Highway 168. Free refreshments will be provided for volunteers. For more information, contact Friends of the Inyo at 760-873-6500, or email andrew at friendsoftheinyo.org. (note - I will fix that _miles in a few minutes)

Tales of the Tower - 7:30pm, April 18, Mountain Light Gallery in Bishop

After spending a pleasant spring afternoon climbing, everyone is invited to the Mountain Light Gallery at 106 S. Main St. in Bishop to see and hear “Tales of the Tower,” a presentation by Frank Sanders. A climbing guide, lodge owner and activist, Sanders will cover the geologic and social history of the famous Devils Tower in northeastern Wyoming, along with stories of his climbing adventures. Admission is free, although donations to Sanders non-profit organization, Devils Tower Sacred to Many People, are encouraged. For more information about the show,
contact Zeke Federman at info at sierrarockclimbing.com or 760-937-6762.

I will be shamelessly self-bumping this thread from time to time over the next few weeks....

edit - Jaybro, I have not talked to him on the phone, but he is quick with the email replies.... frank at devilstowerlodge.com . Lots of fresh OW boulder problems out on the Tablelands for you nutjobs...come on over.

FREE BEER!!!

You think I'm kidding, but I am not. Through the sponsorship of Wilson's Eastside Sports and the Eastern Sierra Climbers Coalition, all those who volunteer for the morning project will drink for free at the evening slideshow.

Well, all those humans of legal age, anyhow....

EDIT - fixed the sponsorship info....refrained from bumping, tho...wasn't that nice of me?

That's the Buttermilks - come boulder with us, and help control the trail network out there.

Now here is one courtesy of Frank Sanders...

That's Devil's Tower. Along with enjoying the beautiful Eastside, which should have a lot of spring flowers around April 18, you get to learn from, and laugh with, Frank!

Come on down....and don't make me bump this again!

ya know, I would have skipped bumping this, but I am going to be out of town for a few days...plus, freakin Lois has some damn drivel about AIG on the front page, so I don't feel like I am moving DRCs epic trip report or anything else worthwhile away from eager eyes.

Hey....FREE BEER!! see ya next month

thanks Lynne, for your note there....I'm sure you will enjoy the weekend. Keep an eye peeled, I think we will probably do something in the Fall at another one of the Eastside hotspots.

For the rest of you, this is just a

BUMP

since the day is getting close. Supposed to be a beautiful weekend around these parts, so come on out and enjoy Frank's show on Saturday night, and helping out at the boulders on Saturday morning. Free coffee in the morning, free beer in the evening, who takes better care of you than us?

I was just out with a few other folks collecting some rocks and brush as materials for the trailwork....plenty to do, come on out and help!

And feel free to bump this along for the next few days so I don't have to do all the work of keeping it in the SuperTopo public eye.

Hope you all are enjoying a beautiful spring - D

Sheesh.....

Come on down, boys and girls, it will be fun! Sounds like Micronut understands the Eastside Spring Triathlon (ski corn, send classic problems in the shade, drink beer). My kinda guy - D
