Although this is Dirka’s login, this is Lissiehoya writing the trip report from his computer (because he has all the pictures).
Day 1 (December 31):
We got up early to drive from Berkeley down to Joshua Tree, hoping to arrive early enough to get a campsite. But, we arrived just when it was getting dark and we couldn’t find a single place, even after skipping directly to Jumbo Rocks.
Luckily this nice couple, Tammy and John, had a huge campsite and invited us to share with them.
Day 2 (January 1):
We started the trip off with a bit of light bouldering.
“Help me down.”
After a trip into town to grab some supplies we forgot, we decided to finish the day by checking out the Cholla Cactus Garden. Those things are pretty cool!

Day 3 (January 2):
We had planned to hike to the Lost Horse Mine with Tammy and John since this was their last day, but ended up heading off on our own.
All you Supertopoians promised me that there wasn’t any snow!
Lost Horse Mine
We decided to do the full 6.2-mile extended hike, instead of doubling back to the parking lot.
If we hadn’t, we would’ve missed some cool miner history.
“I think the trail goes this way…”
Dirka: “How long does it take for them to get this big?”
Ranger: “A long time… no really, like, a long time.”
The hike was followed by some hard bouldering.
“See, I helped!”

Thanks! Was it your first trip there? Glad you got some variety in your trip. How's the finger?
Next time, head down to Desert Hot Springs for a soak one night. Combined with dinner out and some shopping, a nice outing.

Coolness! I missed part one before.
Did you go to Saint Mary's, Dirka?
When my dad died and we all moved away, my mom used to rent out our old bedrooms in her old Moraga house, to st Mary's students.

After I posted the two parts, I felt like I should have mentioned that this is part I and there is a part II. Oh well.
And yeah, the finger still hurts (as I mention in part II). I haven't been climbing since the trip, not because I haven't had the chance, but because I can't do anything like that with my right hand still. :(
