What we really need is some type of sh#t piston that compresses the sh#t and removes the water. Turning the sh#t into pucks that can later be burned as fuel.

It would have to have an opening large enought to go around your a$$, or you'd run the risk of getting crap all over the outside of the bag...especially with bad dihareea.

I'd have to actually look at one, take it for a test drive so-to-speak.

I've been using a similar product called Wag Bags for some time now. They're awesome. I've heard good things about Restop, but haven't tried. As long as they're biodegradable, I'd say give them your endorsement.

I just bought this system for use while camping on our Gunks property:

Works well and seems quite similar to the Restop product. However, the PETT product looks to be a bit bulkier, not that bulky is necessarily a bad thing in these situations. Particularly after a night of Spicy Mexican food and an assortment of adult beverages.

I'll provide action photos for an additional fee.

I'm just kinda curious what's wrong with paper sacks (WTF are you doing using sandwich bags, Chris?!), kitty litter and either a pooptube or waste case? Seriously. Why put so much though into taking a dump - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

IIRC this is what they are giving out in the Tetons.

More than a Wag Bag (which I don't think are all that expensive, considering you can go about three times in one)?

At these prices, I think the urine bag should be designed to convert the waste to drinkable water.

If you could just buy a box of the anti-nasty sprinkles, I'd be all over it like STINK! Until then, the tube and bio-doggie bags will doo nicely. Showed the Poop Tube and CMC at the last International Alpine Meeting in Bulgaria...everyone loved the idea almost as much as playing on the portaledge we set-up.

does anyone have a link to a good description of making a low cost equivelent of these systems?

They are handing out Reststop bags for free in RMNP every time you apply for a bivy permit. I have several left over from this summer. Seems like a great idea for high-use areas. They bags are "landfill safe" according to the rangers, which I hope means they do biodegrade.

I just used one of these in Zion. Like in RMNP, they hand them out when you receive a canyon permit.

It did the job, but certainly more suitable for a single use. Also - not sure how they could be "landfill safe" - It's a hefty bag inside of a thick mylar bag. Maybe they mean that it won't leech into a landfill.

There is also that cool lady from Evergreen, Co, that was at the facelift last year who marketed a similar item. Ed, Nature, what was her name, and internet coordinates?

The Restop woman is Lara, and she'll be at the FaceLift. She's been having a busy summer, as more parks and wilderness areas require or recommend her or similar products.

I think the Restop bags are way better than the WAG Bags. They are bigger, come with more TP and a wet wipe. I don't have the smallest ass in the world and it's pretty to squat into the bag to hit the target. No mistakes yet. I can't comment on the smell since I don't have that particular sense. In other words, I'll carry the full bags of poo if you carry the rope and rack.

Restop bags are available (for a small donation) at the Kain Hut and Applebee campground in the Bugaboos. They do better with odor than most other bags I've seen.

When you're done you can leave them in the conveniently placed collection barrels so you don't even have to hike them out (but you can if that's your thing).

Which bags are aailable at Indian Creek?

Those were the brand offered at the Indian Creek kiosk last winter. The only problem w/ the design is that the bag that you go into is much larger than the hole in the bottom of the bag w/ the chemical is, so you end up going on the side of the plastic bag and then needing to knock it down into the hole. This isn't a big deal except that everything that stays on the bag fails to make it down to the chemical, so it's not as rosey as it might be.
