My less than comprehensive reporting of the Batholith Bash '08 is thus:
The morning of Friday the 13th, the kids and I drove the 20 minute approach from Butte to secure our chosen campsite. The previous few days left the Continental Divide area with 3-6" of fresh wet snow. This proved fortunate because it dissuaded various AV user groups from nabbing all of the good camp location. No pictures here, as I did not want to depress the weather preceding the event.
TKingsbury arrived around 2:00 pm to relieve me, as the kids and I had a date in Missoula for water splash fun and to pick up Tarbuster. All was successful.
Some tents set up with the clear, sunny weather settled in.

A unplugged late-nite fire session.

The 9700w generator's noise was easily suppressed by mass crash-padding and the vehicle in front of it.
With everybody gone out climbing, the kids and I camp-chilled until some Bozeman folk showed up to sample the stone.
Ladies day.

Just arrived home. Wow is there ever some kick butt rock in Butte. I only took a few photos over three days so here is a tour and tease.Dom and Tom in the kitchen.

Those silly Kingsbury boys working out the feet.
Some slabby footwork that was impressive.
And Pat's squeeze chimney was pretty good, too.
So in the afternoon of Day 1 we warmed down to a bouldering session until dark. Here is some of the approach to the biggest boudering areas I've ever been to. Saturday was I believe 17 hours of climbing. Nice warm up.
And that lazer cut crack we've seen posted before is sure fun. Everyone had to get on it and even had a couple near traffic jams.
Assembly line type sends became the most effecient. This was Day one. Warm up day. Stellar weather, great rock, and the best people I could have run into. More to come later. If you missed it, you missed a lot. I will try to post more later as I still have to unpack and cook some chow for the Mrs. that so graciously allows me to squander our life savings on these little camping trips.

Scott- I think you must of moved your first pic, so the address needs to be updated on the post. I can see the second two on here.
So I'm back in Bozeman for a restday. I know, I said I'd be vacationing out there for the whole time, but the allure of a bed, showers, and relaxing was too much for me. I'm also dumping pics from the first half, so here is a bit of the happenings...
I took alot of the day 1 pics on Dom's camera, so those are yet to be downloaded...

We then spied a roof crack that struck Pat's interest...
It's ~15' to the lip...
the kick though...
Before I knew it, Pat pulled the lip and we were all smiles. Very smooth effort from the brother. Nice job Pat.
After a couple beers, I left Pat in good company and headed back for some rest. They are still out there cranking down...I'm headed back in the early AM to jump back in...maybe I'll see you there...

Ok then. Beetle kill it is. Here are some shots of sunday, seven of us went to the Humbug Spires and did the Wedge. We broke up into three different teams and went up via three routes.
The Wedge looking at it from the notch to the north.
And from the bottom looking up.
Some really good and cool rock with awesome views at every belay.
Oh yea, it is mandatory to have dogs to climb in Butte.
How can you be here and not smile.
Probably the best top out in Montana.
And who could that be doing the chimney pitch of the "Old Aid Route" with a red Trango helmet on???Someone famous? Maybe from a Trango ad?
A mandatory debreifing before heading back to camp.
These are shots of Pat on the 911 crack on Monday. Burly lieback and tips to fingerlocks. Awesome effort. Third pic was taken by "Tom" so give him the credit. Notice it contains a pinkie mono.
That's all the time for downloading pics today so until next year. By the way Tom I've burnt you a disk of everything, just e-mail me your info and it's yours. Liz might want some of the stuff too. I'm sure some of the Pat action shots are good also.

Nice pics Bob! Glad to see some pics from y'alls day in the Humbugs...I'll send you my info when I get back in 'home' mode...I gotta head back out now though...
It's the beetle kill that you're seeing in those shots. The Butte area has been hit pretty hard unfortunately.
Just wanted to add that it's been great meeting all you folks so far. A super good time for sure. Well time to saddle up and head out. You folks take er easy

Scuffy, the least amount of people bedding down in camp throughout the event has been 6 (counting my two kids), and the most about about two dozen.
The weather has been uber-good with clear, starry, moon-filled nights.
