Dan Dingle (who did Crest Jewel's first ascent with Mike Lucero) and Steve Swann just put up a Direct Start to Crest Jewel on June 27,2002. Mark Albosta and I did the second ascent a couple weeks later. Five new pitches 5.8, 10a,10d,5.9 and 10a

It's a fun route with good pro (for a slab)

Have fun

To give credit where credit is due, I got this note from Dan Dingle, the first Ascensionist:

'If you mention Mike and I as having done Crest Jewel,
would you also mention Tom Beck. Although he wasn't
on the final ascent, he helped tremendously in
supporting Mike and I in our work and did a lot of the
drilling."

What about Steve? He did most of the bolting on the direct.

I mentioned Steve in the notice and in Trip report. I haven't talked to him but Dan said he was not only a fine drill master but flashed the crux pitch while Dan had a slip on it.

My follow up post was regarding mention of the first ascent of Crest Jewel which Steve wasn't there for.

Peace
