Well, it's exactly one month to the start of the FaceLift. The FaceLift sushifest, ably organized by nature, will be on Tuesday September 25th at Yellow Pines group campground. From the 26th - 30th we'll all be helping with the FaceLift, and having fun.

They're full of information - see particularly posts from Chicken Skinner, nature, and me.

A full list of committed SuperTopo FaceLifters follows in the next post. It is everyone who's said they will or may attend, and where applicable the numbers of people and dates. A question mark indicates that there's some uncertainty about whether you can attend, or the dates - based solely on what's on the threads, and any e-mail I've received.

FaceLift Camping

Please contact Chicken Skinner (aka Ken) ASAP if you haven't already arranged for FaceLift camping. yager(at)inreach.com. We can all camp together at Yellow Pines on the evenings of the 25th and 26th, but after that may be separated.

AFAIK, park entry and camping for FaceLifters is free - if you've signed up in advance, and if you help. There are evening events every day, from the 26th (Wednesday) - 30th (Sunday). Food, speakers, prizes, etc. Mostly at the visitor centre.

FaceLift Sushi

This is on the evening of the 25th, and is being handled by nature, aka Doug. (douglas.lafarge _at_ gmail _dot_ com) $30, BYOB. There may still be a few places - let him know asap, and send your money. There'll be a parallel BBQ, for those who don't like sushi, or haven't signed up but show up anyway. But it will be entirely DIY.

Doug will need help getting set up on the afternoon of the 25th, during the event, and cleaning up. Especially cleaning up. If you arrive early, go to Yellow Pines and check on what's needed.

FaceLift Pancakes & Coffee (30th)

A capable kind soul has offered to put on a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning (30th). It would be somewhere central, e.g. Yellow Pines, and would cost $5 - $10 per person. This would be a chance for everyone to get together, relax, meet, and avoid work. As some SuperTopians can only come for the weekend, a chance for all to mingle. It will require a little less organization - the person has all the needed equipment, and would just need to haul it up, and get materials. The organizer will also need some help setting up, cooking, and cleaning up.

Please post a note if you want pancakes etc on the 30th - you probably won't have to actually pay until the FaceLift. We'll collect names and money up to the morning of the 29th (Saturday), then get groceries accordingly.

The good samaritan has also offered to brew up good coffee every morning of the FaceLift, location somewhere central TBA but perhaps Yellow Pines. He's currently sourcing a supply, but if anyone knows where we can get 8 - 10 kg of quality ground coffee donated...

Decorum

Not just a word play on my last name. We will be in the Valley, and so some behaviours would best be left elsewhere. The Valley, and FaceLift, just ain't the place for them. There's lots of opportunity to indulge elsewhere, and for a few days we need to at least pretend to be responsible citizens. (Boring grown up editorial now ends.)

Looking forward to seeing every one, meeting some new friends, and doing something to help a special place!

I currently have a list running which I will knott post that has 23 confirmed for sushi. Of those 13 have paid. I guess that means 13 confirmed and 10 stating the check is in the mail. I've no idea what my limit will be. If Brutus make it than we can handle 50-60.

Anders - could you modify my email address to douglas.lafarge _at_ gmail _dot_ com please?

Mighty Hiker, Thanks for all of your help and I look forward to seeing you again.

Nature, I sent you a check last week and my family will attend to sample your cuisine. Thank you for all your hard work too.

I still have some camping left, but it is going quickly. Email me if you need accommodations. I need to know for which nights, how many people, and whether Camp 4 or Yellow Pines. Soon there will not be a choice.

Does anyone want me to re-post the schedule and the evening events?

See you all there. I will be the one with red eyes and a spaced out look due to lack of sleep.

Ken - you are one (two) of the 13 paid. I recieved the check today. I'll probably even have some extras left over so expect a few kick-backs.

And I'm not sure if you caught that Ranger Jesse thinks there is a chance that the NPS will help with the fish costs. If so I'll be offering a refund to anyone already paid. He's also very excited about attending.

Cool Nature,

Thanks, I hadn't caught that and Jesse is a nice guy. He is putting a lot of time into this despite planning his marriage for the week before. I bet you will have plenty of walk-in customers. Two-legged and four-legged.

Thanks, Jeff. I summarized what Ken posted about planned evening events, as I reviewed the threads. Best as I can make out:

Wednesday (26th) 7:00 PM: Tom Frost will host a showing of Sentinel, the West Face. Yosemite Lodge Amphitheater.

Thursday (27th) 7:00 PM: Reel Rock Film Tour featuring King Lines starring Chris Sharma. Yosemite Lodge Amphitheater.

Friday (28th) at 7:00 PM: Timmy O'Neill presentation. East Auditorium.

Saturday (29th) at 6:30 PM: Tommy Caldwell presentation. East Auditorium. There is an Octoberfest party at the El Portal Community Hall the same evening and Ken scheduled Tommy's show early enough to do both.

Sunday (30th) at 6:00 PM: Party for the participants including free food, free beer and wine, raffle, and live music from the Joe Paquin Band. East Auditorium.

I believe there are abundant draw prizes, too.

Daytimes are simple: Show up in front of the Visitor Centre, 8 - 10 AM. Sign in. If you don't have a good idea for a needed project, Ken & company will suggest one. They also have litter sticks and bags - bring a pair or two of sturdy gloves, decent footwear, and whatever food, drink and clothing you'll need during the day. Anything else that may be useful for cleanup projects, including possibly small hand tools. Report back to VC when done, no later than 5 PM. Bring all garbage, so it can be weighed and sorted.

It looks like there'll be several evenings when we're on our own for food, though we'd only have until 6:30 or so.

Ken: Monday I am resting after cleaning the East Auditorium. (Whether the aforementioned cleaning is happening on Sunday night or Monday morning, we should all help.)

nature has special sushi for those who attempt to cause this thread to drift. Especially for those who add politics, personalities, religion, or just name-calling.

Good Job Mighty Hiker,

I have non-latex gloves available and any tools needed I should be able to get from NPS or by other means including chain saws, wire cutters, ladders, and cutoff saws. I have some heavy duty projects planned including abandoned overhead phone lines and steel conduit in the river, and other assorted things.I am trying to put together a Tuolumne check-in/weigh station (mostly roadways and turnouts) for all you folks on the East Side though I think us Valley folks will find a lot more than you will.

Royal Robbins is going to co-host the Sentinel,West Face along with Tom Frost. The evening shows are coming together and should be good.

Thank you all for helping to make this happen. It is awesome!

does tagging our favorite man-bear with an ear tag constitute thread-drift?

Here's a challenge to us Facelifter's - can we do something that will get a group picture of us printed in a Patagonia catalog?

Something with decorum - maybe 50 Capilene clad litter hounds playing softball with recycled water bottles. Or a Synchilla Sushi Orgy with Nature on a pedestal.

Serious about this - I know that someone has the camera and the skills to get a cool action shot - heaven knows we've got enough Patawear between everyone to start our own outlet store - so wardrobe is covered.

We just need a cool visual idea and we're in there.

Spring 2008 - GOAL!

One thing I hope to do is keep track of person-days SuperTopians contribute to the FaceLift. Not quite sure how to do so, and it adds to the to do list, but it would be nice to know. A picture would be nice, too, even if just for the gang.

I'll be the one with the hockey stick.

No one seems to be nibbling much on the pancakes, so far - but they should take a bit less planning and preparation.

Mr Hiker, If I want in on -the pancake breakfast, should I bring my own syrup and butter? It would be no big deal. n.t.
