There are currently no fixed lines to Heart Ledges as of May 8th 2010.
I saw this in person on Saturday and was told they were removed on Friday.
So heads up!
On May 7th there were fixed lines on the East ledges decent from El Cap. The top line was in the worst shape (Red and Blue)and should be replaced soon. The 3rd rope from the top (Orange) was pretty fuzzy at the bottom but not dangerous.
The other lines, 2nd (white) and 4th (black) were static lines and in good condition. The ropes for the 2nd rappel had core shots near the anchor that have been properly tied off and are easy to pass. Perhaps because of the core shots there are two ropes for the second rappel. They seem to be in equal shape.
FYI,
Luke

Bummer. Whats up with removing the lines?
Heading that way in just a few days. Can anyone report how busy the Nose, TripleD, Salathe are right now? Thanks.

I believe the fixed lines from Heart had been there over the winter (or were otherwise in bad shape) and were removed.
The first 4 pitches of the Nose were fairly busy on Wed. May 5. I think 5 parties over the course of the day. And 2 parties climbing above El Cap Tower. This is not unusual. On any given day there could be almost nobody or multiple parties.

Heart lines were multiple eyesores, all sketchy, and hard to rap b/c of all the tied-off knots. It was time for them to go and Jesse took care of it.

where do old ropes go to die?
I saw a sweet hammock tightly woven one year in Josh made out of tat and old rope.

MEC in Vancouver now takes old climbing ropes, and other nylon products, back, presumably for recycling of some sort.
