The bench at Boulder One has been smashed to pieces by someone dropping a big rock on it. So if anyone wants to do a community service, here's your opportunity!

It's a easy fix, and if nobody else gets to it first, I'll fix it. This is the bench that was Bob Kamp's idea, and he funded the installation of it, and the one at Turlock.

The posts are still intact, so it just needs a new 2x8x8 stud bolted on.

What is need:
1ea. 2x8x8 stud
4ea. 5/16" Carriage bolts about 3" long.
Pencil to trace holes
Drill for bolt holes
wrench

depressing--and just in time for the holidays.

p.s. it'll need a coat of outdoor paint too--paint it before you install it. if you want to spend a little money, try to get a chunk of ipé ironwood--that'll last forever without any paint. if i were still installing decks i could get one for scrap. maybe someone else can.

i think this is kinda serious, and i don't think pud's post is very appropriate.

either someone has serious issues with a little outdoor furniture or they have serious issues with climbing. in either case, if someone fixes this bench, will it be smashed up again next week?

Long before you guys 'owned' Stoney or the bench existed, it was a place for everyone to enjoy, not just 'climbers'.

Do some pull ups then sit in the dirt, it's good for you.

Tony don't get upset. have you seen what a ice rink goes through?
sometimes people like to take it out on something. in this case they took it out on stoney.

Pud ur right before the wood chair it was a cut of carpet or the a = crash pad to sit on.

Pud that was a really weird & uninformed statement. Stoney Point is enjoyed today by non climbers more than it has ever been.

In my opinion, this was most likely some teenage randomness. I remember plenty of times when breaking things sounded like a great idea.

Seems simple enough to repair it. If it get's smashed again we have an interesting mystery to solve.

Speaking of problems, this wind should dry out the rock just in time for some Yuletide sendage.

I think you nailed it Sam E.

Stoney is what it is. The bench wasn't there bitd. Not sure how it gained so much need these days.

I'm on hiatus 'til 1/9. Want to hit SP tomorrow?

Pud the benches are about Bob Kamps & he is BITD. Me I sit on the ground I don't even own a crash pad. But if Bob wanted benches I won't argue.

The two benches were installed at least 15 years ago. It was a bunch of peoples idea, and Bob offered to pay for some materials. I think it was Mike H.(SCMA) who did the work, not sure though.

Never heard anyone complain about them, I mean it is a city park 100 feet from the road. There's a bunch of climbers behind the building of a ranger station (fire lookout) on top of one of California's most spectacular rock formations, so a park bench at a park is a pretty silly thing to worry about imo. Not to mention, the metal posts are still perfectly intact, and would be a major undertaking to remove, yet it will take ten mintues to repair the top.

Here's the bench
