where is the Republican Compromise
They have made it a Platform of NO Compromise for the last 6 years
Interesting, because I thought Pelosi/Reid had the same platform.
But, really, where is the total de-funding, the total elimination of regulation, or any of the other absolutist positions about which you accuse us?

I will ask again. Do you think the Republicans current plan will genuinely balance the need for business, with the need for a clean environment?
I do, but I also acknowledge that my balance point probably differs from yours. We have the political process to resolve those sorts of conflicts. Right now, though, we have a system where the EPA and the courts -- two bodies largely insulated from the political process -- resolve these issues. For that reason, even if your position (or my, for that matter) on the proper balance point differs from that proposed by the Republicans, I think having the legislative process as the decision-maker will get us closer to the balance point than the litigation/regulation one.

JohnE, I think you might be jumping to conclusions about me and about liberals. I think the EPA has gone crazy at times and would like to rein it in. I know plenty of other liberals who think the same way.
What I don't think is the best thing to do is to defund the EPA, which is what I think happened under George Bush. I may be wrong, but this is what I believe. I don't know how to prove this, so as I said, I may be wrong.
I think that sometimes we do things in the name of trying to improve things, which turn out to be disasters, but that shouldn't mean that we don't keep trying to improve things. I am thinking about some of the fuel additives that we have used that turned out to be harmful.

John M,
Sorry if I left you that impression. I'm making the same error about you that many make about me -- we judge supporters of political parties by their campaign rhetoric.
Again, sorry if I left that impression.
Now I need to get back to work, so I don't end up with the Occupiers.

It is okay John. I understand. Some here label me a Christian simply because I know the bible. Yet I dont' believe that the bible is the inerrant word of God, nor do I believe that Jesus was the only son of God and the only Christ. I do believe that he was the Christ. But I also believe that we are all called to become the Christ, and that there have been many Christs. Plus I believe in reincarnation and I don't believe in an eternal hell. Which puts me mostly outside of modern mainstream Christianity. Though I do try to follow what I believe Jesus taught as best that I can.
Yet because I know the bible, I am labeled a Christian. haha..

Naw... we need some place to put this stuff. Some of it is even funny and occasionally a real conversation breaks out. And this thread gives the other threads a chance. We have had some good conversations on some of the threads recently. I attribute some of that to this thread being an outlet for peoples frustrations.
Donald is just as frustrated with things as you and I. He just sees things differently. I don't really understand why, but that is the way it is.

this is an awesome story that any American should be able to appreciate. A home built with 100 percent american made products. Some cost more, some less. the story didn't say what the finally total was, but they are saying that if all builders used just 5 percent more american made products, that would create over 200,000 jobs.
http://news.yahoo.com/video/business-15749628/home-completely-made-in-america-26889271.html#crsl=%252Fvideo%252Fbusiness-15749628%252Fhome-completely-made-in-america-26889271.html
I grew up with crappy american made autos, and it seemed to make sense to buy a foreign made auto. It certainly pushed the american auto industry to build better and more efficient autos and that is what competition is about. But now we have lost much of our manufacturing jobs, which use to be good paying jobs, so maybe it is time to start a new push to buy American.
I know, I know, the right already does that. yet even they could use a push. You can't tell me every shopper in a walmart is a liberal.

So, a government tries to assassinate a political enemy in a foreign country, and we get all upset about it?
Do tell.
