If that chart showed data for anything other than arctic sea ice, I would agree it is declining. But because it is arctic sea ice, there MUST be something else too it... it must reflect either a vast liberal conspiracy or a misunderstanding of the data. I mean, why should we believe 97% of the folks who have dedicated their lives to studying the Earth and its atmosphere?

Your graph above, Larry, represents nothing more than a peak in Sol's seuss cycle and positive phases of oceanic cycles. The Arctic ice pack has fluctuated significantly throughout the Holocene, often just as, or more pronounced than today. Perhaps someday soon a qualified group of psychiatrists and sociologists will combine efforts on the definitive post mortem of CAGW scientism. Until then, the likes of yourself will continue to pump out drivel for the masses of brain dead followers.

Now Ed seems to be a different case. At least he has the mental faculties to distinguish that natural variability overwhelms the feeble anthropogenic contribution. I guess he persists in this charade because of stubborness, pity for a lost generation of science as well as its continued funding, and a hippy utopian desire for stasis, to linger and smell the flowers if you will, amid the dizzyingly rapid changes of the modern world.

The rest of you doomist idiots have to get used to the fact that your little visions of utopianism will be steamrolled by progress. Since most of you identify with "progressive ideals" you should embrace this.

"I am not a climate change skeptic, and really hope more people get smarter about the deterioration of our climate. I noticed on the weather underground has a section on the site devoted to this topic!"

Where? Please point out some deteriorating climate and do not confuse it and the weather.

Wil Hiker is right, quite a few people have noticed some deteriorating climate. For some examples, see the new report on "Extreme Weather Events in Europe"

From Australia's record-setting fire season (or US fire trends) to North American insects or Superstorm Sandy, other examples are abundant in both scientific and popular sources. A good higher-level analysis appears in Hansen et al.'s 2012 PNAS paper.

Perception of climate change

James Hansen
Makiko Satoa
Reto Ruedy

Abstract

“Climate dice,” describing the chance of unusually warm or cool seasons, have become more and more “loaded” in the past 30 y, coincident with rapid global warming. The distribution of seasonal mean temperature anomalies has shifted toward higher temperatures and the range of anomalies has increased. An important change is the emergence of a category of summertime extremely hot outliers, more than three standard deviations (3σ) warmer than the climatology of the 1951–1980 base period. This hot extreme, which covered much less than 1% of Earth’s surface during the base period, now typically covers about 10% of the land area. It follows that we can state, with a high degree of confidence, that extreme anomalies such as those in Texas and Oklahoma in 2011 and Moscow in 2010 were a consequence of global warming because their likelihood in the absence of global warming was exceedingly small. We discuss practical implications of this substantial, growing, climate change.

Hah, if I have masses of brain-dead followers I'd better lock the doors. Most of what I write is aimed at people with very active brains, and knowledge to laugh off the stage someone who spouted the kind of science-babble you write.

For example, if we get this sea-ice prediction paper written, with its possibly provocative findings, it will first be read and critiqued by people who are leading experts on sea ice.

Go ahead Larry, get your tit in a wringer with predictions. I hope publication is soon enough that this thread will still be in existence and we can all have a gut wrenching laugh.

people like Lindzen, Spencer, Christy, Pielke, Ball, Dyson, Gray, Curry, etc. etc. rightly deserve fame and eventual admiration for standing up

Is it a single one of those people that actually agrees with Rick's view on global warming?

Lindzen and Spencer definitely don't because they both believe in warming due to higher CO2 levels. I believe Christy has a similar view.

I've changed my mind. Humans have no effect on the Earth's atmosphere, biosphere, or any other sphere... despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It just doesn't make sense that stupid puny humans could actually affect anything by carelessly burning billions of tonnes of fossil fuels. Other organism have never affected the Earth's atmosphere... ever... there was no biologically induced great oxygenation event... just more liberal conspiracy.

Yup, no Hurricanes this year.

But don't worry. Watts Up With That, the blog that seems to be a main source of ideas for denialists on ST, has 3 posts already complaining about "alarmism" of media reports about Typhoon Haiyan. Anthony Watts prefers to believe early Red Cross estimates of casualties because those are lower than early Philippine government estimates (1,200 vs. 10,000), and prefers to believe early Philippine government reports of wind speeds because those are lower than the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (171 mph vs. 235 mph).

That's right, WUWT is playing a silly numbers game to attack media "alarmism" while real people are dying. That's a perspective to keep in mind as the scale of this huge disaster unfolds over the weeks ahead.

Chiloe, don't tell me... You mean Rick himself is going to read and critique your paper? Whow, look out.

No Worries, the critique is on its way.hahaha.

It totally cracks me up that deniers use credible science in saying it has all happened before during the holocene ,yet purdge and denie any "other" science that defeats their opinion.

hahaha , pure comedy.

Wilbeer, you should channel your inner Jimmie Carter, don a wool sweater, then look for some windmills snd solar panels to erect. Much of the information you posted above has been repeatedly and thorougly discredited.

Of course, the old " you can't possibly understand the science" argument, followed inevitably by ad hominen attacks. I guess you guys feel a wee bit uncomfortable when the tables are turned. There is not a lot to understand in climate scientism once you realize it has failed most tests and the conclusions reached by many of the papers on the alarmist side are not reproducible using real data.

the old " you can't possibly understand the science" argument

Nobody said you can't possibly understand the science. They said you clearly DON'T understand it.
