Trump, or his people, did this to himself. I would be surprised to learn that Trump was not apprised of what was happening, at the time, and how it would benefit him.
But, I would not be surprised to read a Twitter that Trump says he had no idea of what was going on.
Trump's grand conspiracy theory (Witch Hunt + NO COLLUSION = Fake News) is very close to going fully "Floppy Don" on Twitter: "Colluding Jared never told me anything. It was him. Not me. #JaredToJail #MTGA".
This shift, with a single midnight Tweet, will throw the blame at "a debt-ridden dolt I don't even know, who is losing his building, and who has never been married to my daughters."

Trump didn't attend the funeral for Barbara Bush.
Trump said that his security detail would have overwhelmed the event. Apparently Secret Service agents for five presidents, instead of the four who attended, would have been too much.
Trump also said he was staying away "out of respect to the Bush family". Trump has been so uncivilized and verbally abusive to Barbara's son Jeb, a physical altercation at the emotional event would have been inevitable.

"Lyin' Todd" Rokita is falsely and fraudulently declaring that Trump has endorsed him for Senate. In real life, Trump has angrily rebuked and denounced Rokita, and has ordered the removal of Rokita's campaign signs.
When asked if Rokita will comply with Trump's order, his representative told the IndyStar newspaper, "We do not comment on yard sign strategy."
Here's the best part:
Rokita claims the signs are accurate, and neither deceptive nor fraudulent.
He says the signs indicate that he is endorsed by Trump-Pence 2016 Indiana Team Leaders. In other words, the signs indicate that Rokita is endorsed by certain Indiana campaign workers.

Normally, president's don't attend First Ladies' funerals. But, Barbara Bush was also a First Grandlady. And, Trump and Melania were invited. And, Melania showed up with a date.
Trump's behavior and excuses are just weird, that's all. Nobody is claiming (yet) that he's the son of the devil.
Trump is unprecedentedly unpresidential. His absence from that photo proves it.

As I was sitting around this weekend with nothing to do (couldn't climb due to back injury, hopefully won't be out long) I was struck that the entire Barbara funeral was shown on every network. Nothing at all against Barbara, but this isn't a monarchy where we're forced to pretend that some people are special just because of their social status, is it?
Televising Barbara's entire lengthy funeral on every network just seemed really weird to me (and no, I didn't watch it all, just a few minutes to get a sense of what was going on--nothing particularly interesting.)

Why did people vote for a lying demagogue?
Confirmation Bias.
People are biased towards believing something based on preconceptions and earlier conclusions. People are more likely to agree with what they already believe to be true, even if that belief is flawed and erroneous.
Trump's voters tune into Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, and are fed disingenuous propaganda. Then, when Trump says the same thing, they think:
"Oh, yeah. That's right. I've heard that before. Now I know, for a fact, that Hillary should be locked up because she has a torture chamber for child sex slaves at a D.C. pizza parlor. I'm going to vote for Trump."
The Trump-Hannity-Fox closed cycle has Hannity/Fox repeating what Trump says, and Trump repeating what Hannity/Fox says. They have created a tokamak-shaped echo chamber, where their deceptive nonsense just goes around and around and around.
Josef Goebbels' heir-apparent is Sean Hannity. Hannity has the same relationship with Trump that Goebbels had with Hitler.
Trump had a previously-scheduled tee-time that he couldn't get out of.

It's an open question whether Hillary should have been prosecuted for the email scandals. At the very least investigation should be re-opened in light of apparent criminal conduct by McCabe and possibly Comey.
If Hillary was guilty, that still doesn't necessarily mean she should be locked-up--we'd have to see what the federal sentencing guidelines call for, and also would be interesting to see the punishment that similar wrongdoers received.

The Hannity-Trump echo chamber is still reverberating with noise about Hillary being investigated and locked up. Trump and Hannity are using that noise in an attempt to distract from an actual, factual investigation into actual, factual crimes that have already led to Trump's associates confessing, being sentenced and being sent to jail.
Hannity and Trump are like two little kids with chocolate all over their faces, saying, "Somebody else ate the cake. We need to find out who did it."

What happened in the past is established.
W “lost” or destroyed 22 million emails from the extraordinary rendition and torture years before he left office without any punishment at all. I don’t recall anybody discussing sentencing guidelines before indictment back then.
I mean, other than the foreign courts that have indictments filed on him and Cheney for war crimes at the international court at The Hague.
