I MAY BE IN TROUBLE HERE, not only has judy, judy, judy determined that I am an idiotic moron (could be worse, say, e.g. a moronic idiot), but I did not realize it is St. Valentines Day today.
In my defense Fra Serra did not observe St. VD, so I'll be able to talk my way out of it I'm pretty sure.
Saint Serra with a rose, in and out of the garden he goes,
Country garden in the wind and the rain,
Wherever he goes the people all complain.
Anyway, I never saw Jerry Lopez with one of these puppies, but they are water proof and do float. In his defense, Lopez might just be an imbecilic surfer who could never pass the rigorous CHP test like Ponch Estrada
Heeey buddy can you spare some water.
Not if you don't live here kook.
I'll let you be in my dream, if I can be in your dream.

The Jeepnie Bride of Valentines
This blue, this blue, this blue of mine
Oh come now from the dawn of time
Descended down upon me now
To come to visit o'er and frown
For shame, for shame, no music heard
I wish it were not so, this bird
To come again on mountain trail
This tide hath shred upon my veil
'Till stop, and hark the maiden called
To cast her eye upon my wall
I would not argue with her thus
For she arrived by Jeepnie bus
Festooned with speakers and a crest
Ringed in diamonds like the breast
Of royal pheasant bold and loud
The bus a trembling brassy proud
As she eyed there my motley crew
I recognized her through the hue
Of absinthe smoke and poppy wreaths
''Twas my darling bride to be beneath
Who sabotaged our anguished toil
With Rock, and Bach, and Saxophones
To wail and scratch out way beyond
Our deep laments by way of song
And as I swung the pick and struck
I eyed her for her icy pluck
To drive upon and assuage our pain
Lest we should never meet again
This charming gypsy future bride
There was no shame nothing to hide
And thus I took the leap and said
I'd marry her before I'm dead
Many a year it came and passed
Before I ran across that lass
Men fought in wars and empires fell
Likened to death or so the smell
She came to me after the hour
Then we eloped to the wedding tower
And I loved her to the end of days
As the years went by and slipped away

Big doings this morning in the weather window between storms.
Pouring slab today at the UC Downtown Center. The inspectors were all out there on Monday, yesterday no one was around, hardly.
May have to try and move up to the fifth floor.

Quote of the Day/Week/Month
if you couldn't tie a swiss seat, fair guess you would never be able roll your own.--Big Richard
That was yesterday morning.
This one I made last night about sundown.Absolutely one of my pettest peeves is about drivers sneaking into cross walks when there are peds in them. It is NOT legal to do so, no matter where in the cross walk the ped is located, you CANNOT enter the zone. Nobody pays any attention, though, do they?
Avoid the finger and use your head.
Learn to tell the green from red.
And remember which rope to pull.

Hey, 'round here, it is no longer Mornin' [Click to View YouTube Video]
From late in the same afternoon!
I called
was responding to a great thread and was showed to much
Un-bridled enthusiasm. This in response to J Donini saying the Pancake flake pitch was Origanally a1
! Have a bit of respect! Even you have 'Elders'
Dirt filled, EXPANDO-Flake!
That shjt was never a1!
I've got to. . . . . If for no other reason than to bookmark this thread.
No Nostrils helps when the cracks are filled with dirt,
Ancient welding Googles: built out of felt & plastic, folded flat stuffed into a shirt pocket or up under a 'hat'
hey, CC do you remember or know of the stories from the 80s when some no0Bs
took off from that mid -stance spot, ripping the pin and going, for the ride? ,
(some long way (60+ ft, that?) Before the haul-line caught?)
as far as the correct way to pendulum before cams,
I was taught to go as far as three hard tries got you and set up there, not try any more unless that third try was short, or provided no crack for gear /stance.

A Ramble in Lynne Leichtfuss' Van
Mouse hears "Cheers" here's Mouse
Wide awake and responsive
I hope you enjoy your ramblynne
no, no you're not repeating yourself again
but I am developing CRSD whatever that means
I love to ramble myself with myself or another elf
that's not so odd in middle errth
did I ever tell you that the essence of mountaineering is rambling
that it is also the heart and soul of adventure which ultimately lies within the lies you can tell at the campfire to the other lie-ing dogs
everybody's lie-in' about it, that moon, that moon, that moonful
some of them nearly tell the truth
I think BooDawg said boo and it scared me
some of the truth he told me as I fall-oh-ed and silently cursed my shadow
when we cross certain bridges we are hanging on the words of Borghoff
belying the likes and dislikes of not-Roper
nut Robbins or what's-his-name with the elbow stuck in the crack
but they might agree and even might have said words to that effect
and we just might stay out of trouble or go down in history
or just continue to ramble
Muir Audobon you me
in a Rambler Ambassador station wagon stuffed with ropes and haul bags with two dogs in the back
or a pair of kronnies with no reason to live housing a tall bearded mystoic
we all come to the Sierra Nevada Yosemite Tahquitz Yellow Pine Camp 4
and are changed for ever more
thanks for the feedback on this TR everyone
it was as nice, I mean fulfilling, mystical, gosh-darn-fun
as the White Lightnin' at Winterland in 1968
yes, kiddies, I am the first White Lightnin' so do not be fooled or lied to except by the Neverend
did I everend except I mention that the Reverend Ever Lies
you'll nevererver hear that heresay from me
you never forget the first but the details get fuzzy
I remember the first time rambling meant something, unlike today
-MFM & ME both
From Retroland. An old TR.
T Hocking's photo of his old vintage pack got me thinking of these packs, which never sold very well, probably because zippers are better than buckled straps.
That led to thinking of this other TNF teardrop design, the Daypack in blue, green, orange, like most of the rest of their pack line back then.
I preferred the Daypack with the rough-out leather bottom over the nylon bottomed version. It kept its shape better and was more durable on the rock. 2.2 oz nylon.
"Camp 4 is a lousy hang."--donini
It carried like nothing else I've used - a very basic divided design with no pockets to hinder hauling. Patches on the bottom for attaching an ensolite wrapped around a light down bag and an ice axe loop/patch, too. Hauling loop was doubled nylon and robustly sewn and the zippers never failed until they got beat to hell from overuse. They were under a lifetime warranty.
My pack was stolen sometime in the eighties.
i miss the weej, too
Yep, that was a lot of camera gear, Jim.
