I don't claim to understand it, that is why I would keep my hands off the gears if I were running the Federal reserve.

That is the thing about Austrian (free market) economics - it works whether you understand it or not. Sort of like evolution - which works whether you believe it or not.

The free markets will solve all our problems. They can do no wrong, and govt can do no right.

Our present administration (as well as the previous one, to a large extent) has only one use for free markets: as somewhere to pin the blame when their nit-witted policies backfire. Then they use them as an excuse to micromanage, tax, and regulate more sectors of the economy

"Progressives" have a "therapeutic" view of human nature. In other words, if only the right people with the right plan and enough power were in charge, the world could be "fixed"

This utopian view is realy only a replacement of the historical religious view of a postmortem paradise with the belief in the possibility of establishing a temporal one.

Foolishness!

We can change human nature and the laws of economic intercourse as convincingly as we can change Newtons postulates.

"when did we let the dimwits in DC become venture capitalists with our money??"

Just an amazingly well thought-out and articulate post there, Crack

You're just so absolutely right - gov't should only support things that show immediate, short term profit, and ignore ventures that don't turn a profit

Take Iraq, for instance - why, that was an absolute gold mine, just look at the incredible profit

Thank God you repubs are such incredible financial super-geniuses, I can't imagine where we'd be without your amazing economic acumen

This is the type of logic that lets government grow out of control: it is excusable for democrats to waste money because republicans did it also!

"But mommy, she hit me first!!"

What do you think about Pollution regulations??

We know where Ron Paul stands, None.
Go ahead about pollute all you want..

That's a double edged sword Frybaby. If Gov't would not subsidize gasoline it would cost a lot more, and we would tend to buy more energy efficient vehicles.

The political class in general, and the "progressive"politician in particular, believe that human nature and the laws of economics and even physics can be abrogated by government fiat.

They're so smart!

Can you just picture hiring someone to do a job, confronting him with a huge performance shortfall only to have him say: "Well, the guy before me did not do it either." Uh ....ahem - that is why we hired YOU.

Perfect analogy LEB.

So weak
Like all right wing ideology
it starts and ends with talking points that mean Nothing

Maybe you should beef up your arguments with some facts Frybaby. I don't think there has ever been an important scientific paper written in Haiku.

HUH????
on human nature: progressives and conservatives alike believe a major human motivator is greed. The difference is the conservatives believe unfettered greed is a social good.
on laws of economics: nearly all economists, from either side of the political spectrum, are agreed on the need for short term economic stimulus right now. They are also all in agreement that the debt must be reduced. It's the Tea Bagger politicians who've got their heads in the sand.
on physics: anti-evolutionists and global warming deniers generally come from the conservative side of the political spectrum: Perry, Bachmann and Palin come immediately to mind.

what moronic claptrap you spout.
LEB, I'm ashamed of you for buying into it. So much for you being a critical reader.

First of all that is a straw man because the job that has been done has been incredible.
The f*#king world is saved!!

Second of all....
The only reason all you republicans past voting records and performances are brought up is because you f*#king idiots want to do the same thing again.

Nothing worked!!
It's the definition of insanity!
You literaly f*#ked up everything....
And learned nothing from it.

For ten years I predicted everything that would occur while you tards argued vehemently in opposition.
When everything fell off a cliff you shut up for 5 seconds, at the most, and then started right up again on your record with one groove.

What is this babble?

I think I will go stick my head in the sand until someone can explain to me how any stimulus is going to help us right now. Of course, I argued this in 2008, 2009 and 2010 using the same data. Now we are Trillions of dollars more in debt, with no economic gains to speak of.

Hmmm... the only thing I can think of is that politicians have no grasp of very simple quantitative relationships, or maybe they just made a lot of money from throwing around our money. And most economists are worthless, because most of Economics is not science. Austrian economics is, but Keynesianism is at best science fiction.
