I think the effects will go beyond this election.
The Republican Party--not just the trump or his followers--but most of the leadership--has completely capitulated to a raging, open bigot.
People will remember this. They've really blown it.

Guess I'm being a little snarky above, In reality it's all very sad. The only good I can see is if this helps the republican party go back to honest conservatism. Right now one of the big problems is the Limbaugh level insanity that is the core of the republican party.. such that no reasonable candidate can win a primary.
We need two opposing reasonable and loyal viewpoints.. at least two.. and people dedicated to the best interests of the general population.
Currently that does not describe American politics at all.. SAD

You're right, though, climbski2. On a national level, that party abandoned any commitment to governing long ago. They've ignored facts, and completely catered to cranks and bigots. They need a major shake up.

they can basically impeach him and choose a different candidate at the convention.
Impeachment is a process against someone already in office, and it is a preliminary proceeding before a trial. It is analogous to an indictment.
Trump can't be impeached until he is in office. And, if he is elected and then impeached by the House, he must then stand trial in the Senate (c.f. Clinton and the Blue Dress).
It would be a wonderful circus for Trump to somehow win, and then be impeached on inauguration day, six minutes after being sworn into office.
Priceless.
Then, the Gin Grinch would become President . . . . . . . . . . not so priceless.

I actually think that if trump were to be elected he won't serve a full term. . . . . . .

Totally agree. 400+ reps and 100 senators just won't lock step to his tune.
Everyone complains about exec orders now....HA! If he were in office!!!

He won't make it past the convention is my prediction
more than half of the Republicans hate him, and that half consists of the Republicans in Charge
They could just boot his ass at the convention, or maybe his numbers will be so bad by then that they have no choice but let him go
which would change everything
suppose they put up Scott Walker
The Dems would have to totally recalibrate their campaign
That $10 bet is looking good for me right now.

Radical Trumpist threatens inebriates with his big gun. Skates.
At around 10 p.m., a neighbor reportedly witnessed a group of four friends who had been walking down a sidewalk in the 100 block of West Juniper Street meddling with the campaign sign. The friends appeared to have been drinking.
Witnesses told San Diego police, the neighbor allegedly exited his home with a rifle and threatened the group using profanity. At one point he allegedly told them, “I’ve been waiting to use this.”
...
Police arrived and questioned the man. They then transported him down to SDPD headquarters for more questioning. He was allowed to return home and was not arrested.
No names were released and there were no reported injuries.
When 10News spoke to the neighbor early Thursday morning after he’d returned from police headquarters, he claimed our crew was at the wrong home. He alleged someone who looks identical to him lives down the street.
This sort of thing cost the Santa Monica wannabee shooter/bomber (non radical Islamist) a year in Indiana.
You can be convicted of brandishing a weapon, or firearm, under CA Penal Code 417[1], if you draw or exhibit a weapon in a rude, threatening, or angry manner.
In order to be convicted of the crime the prosecutor must prove the three elements of the crime:
That you drew or exhibited a deadly weapon in the presence of another
That you did so either in a rude, threatening or angry manner, or during a fight
That you did not do so while acting in self-defense or in the defense of another

Speaking of Trump, he claims he has a secret plan for decimating ISIS.
If he were a true patriot, rather than a high school military school graduate draft dodger, wouldn't he request a private audience with Obama (the guy who is too stupid to figger it out) and explain to him how it is done? He could then concentrate on his "service" by continuing to avoid STD's.
I'm sure Obama wouldn't blab.

"I think the effects will go beyond this election."
I seriously doubt it, at least I doubt there will be any real, deep changes in the GOP as a result of the Trump debacle.
Nope...this has happened before, not that long ago actually- the GOP got its election ass kicked in '08 with their ridiculous VP candidate, and not a damn thing changed...except they got worse. A much more dramatic implosion is going to be necessary before any real change is gonna happen.
How's that hopey-changey thing working for you, GOP?
