i guess you would be right MisterE, if each of us were running software
that would block everyone else's offerings.

forum wide, many of the threads, many of the posts of any type fall under the
general category that might be labelled "hey, check this out!" so it is here.

it's a basic social impulse that appears to register a positive response in the noggins
of some individuals, to include self and others. no need to summon pejoratives really.

in the old top down music publishing, corporate radio model, only DJ's*
employed by the man lavished this kind of sharing upon their mates.

cheers buddy

edit: *and talented souls, venue owners, producers, etc. too i suppose.

besides, some of this stuff is just too cool not to uncork

Have found some good study/chill out music recently.
Moby did an ambient album and you can listen to the whole thing in its entirety here, if you're into that kind of stuff.

call it sharing, call it *tr's particular penchant for me-ness.

MisterE:
Can't help to notice the fine selections you put up (Cream, Los Lobos) recently; not exactly sure of your stance.

The posts on this thread are responses to a question. No less me-ness than the What Did You Climb Today thread; except the subject matter and the punctuation.

Granted it is OT; but music seems to be the subject of many OT threads. I am not sure why it causes so much angst for a few people, unless it is the OP; which seems rather banal.

apparently the copyright to Hey Joe was somewhat contentious, see the Wikipedia page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Joe

in the end, Billy Roberts succeeded in his claim to copyright...

THE LUMINEERS - Stubborn Love

she'll lie and steal and cheat,
and beg you from her knees.
make you think she means it this time.
she'll tear a hole in you,
the one you can't repair
but i still love her,
i don't really care

when we were young we did enough
when it got cold we bundled up
i can't be told it can't be done

it's better to feel pain,
than nothing at all
the opposite of love's indifference.
so pay attention now,
i'm standing on your porch but screaming out
and i won't leave until you come downstairs

so keep your head up, keep your love
keep your head up, keep your love
keep your head up, keep your love
keep your head up, keep your love

Dr. Hartouni:

Copyrights have a way of doin' that, no?

Here's one of my favorite groups (funny thing, their LP version hasn't made it to youtube), with a little discussion of Hey Joe evolution by Arthur Lee. Note the attribution on the LP label is to Valenti.

Arthur Lee and Love - Hey Joe

and

following (pun) in the psychodelic footsteps of The Seeds:
Love - "You I'll Be Following" - original mono LP

If you really wanna trip start it playing in Youtube, then here with about a 3-5 second delay. You'll have to adjust the lag time to your specs. "My head's still there"

Mr. MisterE:

Statistically, this thread has fewer viewer responses to other posts, ...

I'm kinda slow, can you explain what you mean?

Are you saying that posts here are triggered more by "what someone is listering to" than by a previous post. What I'm listening to, and posts I make are often triggered by something posted here.

i woulda been back then)out in the lobby arguing about how outrageous the
ticket price was($3.50, lol)...how times have changed, eh!

And hopefully someone is reaping benefits from his copyright. I know Hendrix credited Billy Roberts for the song.

The wiki article mentioned Cher as someone that covered Hey Joe but I will not suffer you with a link.

This is so much better:

this here is what i grew up with in cape breton, nova scotia and what you came to expect when visiting folks. i am scottish(MacLean). the Beatons, they are from Mabou. when asked what i would like for my seventh birthday, i clearly recall replying "a fiddle!" my kin worked hard farming the fields & fishing the sea during the week, but saturday night was set aside for one of the various nieghboring towns to sponsor a dance, and it would be announced and spread far and wide, ie. "next saturday it will be, Judique on the floor"(or Mabou, Porthood, Belle Cote', etc.). all were welcome, even young kids. i loved those shindigs. the music was so good. my mom played the acoustic guitar and spoons. aunts, uncles and cousins, etc. played fiddle, piano, guitar, etc. and everyone stepdanced(some better than others). it is in my family's blood. my dad was born in Porthood, my mom in Belle Cote' Cape Breton NS, Canada. i spent my youth/early school years and later summers there. when i go over to visit my mom now(here in san diego)we always put on a 12 song 'set' and she breaks out the spoons and we dance a jig together. music keeps ones heart(and body)young...she turned '92 yrs old last march and is still goin'(standing)strong...

Ashley MacIsaac(was on GMA about ten years ago)also grew up in Mabou, as did Natalie MacMaster, the Beatons & Brenda Stubbert.

Sorry bout the long post, but i'm kinda proud of my peeps & where i hail from and i wanted to share a lil' bit about them wit' ya'll!!

BTW,Ashley MacIsaac has toured with/opened for The White Stripes.
