Crime is down under Obama, police killings are down under Obama.
Crime was down under Bush, police killings were down under Bush. What exactly is your point?
Wow, 8 years of crime down under Bush and another 8 years of it being down under Obama. That is impressive, 16 years is a grand downward trend.
The only thing, somebody isn't telling the truth...

"Think how low they would have been if he hadn't tacitly endorsed them."
Yes and he is Muslim too, he wants all policemen shot.
Kinda stunned on your statement, even from you that is pretty f*#ked up.

Not exactly, Jody.
Just saying that Cruz's motivations were not solely about his principles, nor were they solely about his 2020 aspirations. I do believe he was rightfully offended by the sh#t Trump sprayed about his wife & his father, but he is also a highly calculating politician, and is hoping this 'principle' narrative works when he tries to rise above the Trump ashes for another run at it.
It was not solely about his 'principles'. He's got a pretty solid history of deceitfulness, and there's a reason he's one of the least liked members of Congress.

Escopeta posted To be fair, you appear to post on a great number of threads without knowing what's going on. What's your point?
I'm glad you can finally cop to not having a good understanding of events. What's your point?
Jody posted Bob, look at his rhetoric in the days leading up to the police shootings. I didn't say he PURPOSELY tacitly endorsed it, but his rhetoric sure went that direction and fueled the flames that led to the police being murdered.
Only if you take the viewpoint that police are always justified in doing whatever they do whenever they do it and non-whites should be disproportionately policed. Is that your viewpoint?
Also, does your definition of "tacit approval" include "complete and total rejection?" Because Obama's actual comments acknowledged racial inequity in policing while totally denouncing violence against police.

Cruz is counting on Donald getting blown out in a landslide and running as the "see, I told you so" candidate in 2020.
Yes, Trump savaged his family in the primary. So what? That's std fare for modern politics. Did Teddy expect something else, or somehow miss out on the last 40 years of GOP politics? I mean, he is well educated and smart, and surely understands what Lee Atwater, Roger Stone and co put into place as std GOP tactics when the southern strategy launched with Nixon.
If you are Ted, and truly interested in country over self, then you are more concerned about the Supreme Court appointments than some petty personal slights from an opponent in a nasty campaign. You can make the charitable assumption that Teddy really believes Trump has no chance to win and the court seats are a foregone conclusion and isn't in his mind betraying his party.
The Purity Purging aspect of the modern conservative movement was always bound to kill it off. The circle of "acceptable" conservatives gets smaller and smaller as any difference of opinion (or acceptance of science, fact, truth) in opposition to the std party line gets you booted. "Oh, you believe in human driven global warming? Beat it, you're not welcome here! Oh, you believe people are gay by genetics and not choice, well you don't belong either becase we are going to use Christian conversion therapy to pray the gay away"
Eventually, nobody is pure enough, the pool of potential rubes has been exhausted, and you're left with the true believing stragglers who have yet to see outside the Fox/Breitbart/Limbaugh bubble and recognize their entire political movement is teetering on the brink of extinction.
The cons are born losers. They are, philosophically, against change. And the one thing that is certain in this world is change.

Maybe God hates police and wants them to be shot--makes about as much sense.

Not Jody a lone sick, crazy gunmen killed those policemen, Obama had nothing to do with it.
If anything the killing of black mens by police put that sick bastard over the edge.

Tell me again how God Jesus ordered demons out of a man and into pigs.

Jody posted P.S. Why do people sign their names to posts when their name is already on the post?
Easily the most poignant question Jody has ever asked on Supertopo. Why indeed?
David Duke just announced he will run for Senate in Louisiana. Get on the Duke train, c wilmot!
Duke's announcement came as the state is grappling with deep racial tensions after the shooting death of a black man by white police officers and the killing of three law enforcement officers by a black man. It also came one day after Donald Trump accepted the GOP nomination for president.
The white supremacist Duke is a former state representative who represented suburban New Orleans for one term more than two decades ago and was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress. His failed bid for governor in the 1991 race against former Gov. Edwin Edwards was one of Louisiana's most high-profile elections, with Duke opponents proudly showing bumper stickers supporting Edwards that read "Vote for the crook. It's important."
In a posting on his website, Duke said he'd been "urged by enormous numbers of people his district to run for United States Congress."
"With the country coming apart at the seams and no one willing to really speak the truth about what is happening, the majority population in this country needs someone who will actually give voice to their interests in the face of an increasingly violent hatefest launched by the media and political establishment against them," Duke's website says.
Duke is a convicted felon, pleading guilty in 2002 to bilking his supporters and cheating on his taxes. He spent a year in federal prison, but later denied any wrongdoing.

No it implies that they are like the rest of population, they make mistakes and 98 percent of them are good and do a very difficult job and should be held accountable for their actions. Some have committed murder.

With a couple of exceptions, that Late Show Clip nailed it. Especially regarding Fox News and Sean Hannity. Very funny.
Hannity is a fool, and buffoon. Even some of his "friends" contradict what he says.

Jody posted But your follow-up comment about police killings of black men needs some back-up. that comment implies that every time a black man is shot by police then it was just cold-blooded murder.
Black people suffer police violence at grossly disproportionate rates to whites. The problem isn't bigoted cops it's that America has embraced the idea that black people are dangerous criminals and should be treated as such. We also accept the idea that police are generally in the right which means when police respond to a black kid with a toy gun and shoot him on sight we let it go whereas white men with assault rifles often get "talked down" and calmly arrested. Or in the case of the Bundy ranch, allowed to walk free entirely.
There are cases when it can be readily called murder and the only reason those cases are getting attention is because brave citizens are filming them and putting them online. Otherwise cops would just be covering for each other and moving on with life like we always have in this country.
The RNC crowd literally cheered when the officer was acquitted for the murder of a young man who suffered a broken neck and died while in police custody. You can't tell me that doesn't send a powerful message.
Police shot Philando Castile and Alton Sterling and then offered them no medical attention whatsoever. They just stood there while they bled to death.
