At the further end of the hall, seen dimly through a halo of tobacco smoke, I remember to have observed a portrait, executed in the highest style of German art, representing Schiller--I think--with a few lines underneath, that in their complete unintelligibility and redundancy of Z's and S's, seemed to me to be the natural language of intoxication. I remember, too that as I gazed at it, the band struck up an irresistible waltz, and the circling couples flew by me. I remember, too how well they danced--those Germans--how the mazes of their cotillion seemed to be modelled upon the terribly-involved sentences of their own metaphysical writers. I remember, too, that, being influenced by the prevailing beverage and the fascinations of Strauss, I found myself shortly after waltzing with somebody in a white waist and blue skirt, but when or how I was introduced I cannot now recall. As she spoke no English and I no German there was nothing to divert our attention from the serious business of the waltz, and our acquaintance ceased with that set. Blonde-haired and slightly adipose maiden! should thy mild blue eyes ever rest on these pages, accept this assurance that thy slim, serious and sallow-visaged partner is still thy debtor.--Bret Harte, 1864
Dance of the Blessed Spirits by Gluck, played by Rachmaninoff. (An old recording, but like McCartney's grandfather, very clean.)

Same tune, on the piano, but I love the tone of this better, much better.

A koala was sitting in a gum tree smoking a joint when along camea little lizard. The little lizard looked up and said
"Hey, K! Watcha doon, mate?"
"I'm blowin' a J. C'mon up and joint me. It's some bonzer boo, dawg."
And so they sat and got wasted on some fatties until the little lizard got dry mouth. So he climbed down to the bank of the river, but was so wasted he leaned to far out and fell in the water. A big croc swam over and nosed him back to the bank, where the little lizard thanked his distant cousin.
After explaining how ripped he had gotten smoking with the koala, the croc said he had to check it out, so he went into the bush and found the tree where the koala sat, still toking away.
The croc smiled and said,
"Say, Hey there, Mate!"
Well, the koala looked at the croc and said,
"Shiiiiit, dude, how much bloomin' water did you drink?"

The Appalachian dulcimer music of Mark Gilston, lots and lots on Youtube.
He plays a squeezebox concertina as well, with some Scandinavian traditional can-cans thrown into the mix.
Try it, it's really sweet music, played by he alone. Skoal.

Tobia - Funny thing. I heard Mona did not like Mr. Bates. He supposedly built a house next door and she moved (to Merced). Anyway, we can check with mouse, he'll know for sure.
Is it toe-by-ah or tobee-ah?
