Other people want to spend OUR money like it was nothing.

That is what they say about you.

Perhaps it is unfair. don't you think, considering what you just said.

The poor die in the war, and their payroll taxes dig into their actual lifestyle more than the total income taxes on the very rich impact their lifestyle. and then the rich complain about 5% tax increase, that's the kind of shared sacrifice GOP believes in

Straw man argument Lois. how would raising taxes on the poor fix the underground economy?

Taxes on the wealthy have gone down more then they have on the middle class.

I think that we should have a progressive tax on capital gains.

So do the rich and middle class. They die and get maimed as well.

Ugh.. your lack of understanding is profoundly disturbing.

Consumption taxes hurt the poor more then they do the wealthy. That makes them unfair.

Progressive taxes are the most fair.

You are still using a consumption tax to pay for healthcare. Consumption taxes are unfair no matter where you apply them.

Some of the noble poor you speak of are not quite so noble as you might think.

you are the one who keeps calling them noble. not me. I have worked with the poor. I know just how messed up they can be.

But they don't create the system. The powerful do. The powerful have you completely gamed to protect them.

Progressive taxes are the most fair tax.

Lois..you ramble on emotionally and your long winded comments are not based in facts. You constantly talk about a PO on healthcare but slander the people (democrats) who are for it.

Could you please post one republican in the house who is for the PO...just one.

So why do you vote republican...abortion, religion, low taxes for the rich, higher government spending??

Lois, So your consumption tax is progressive, meaning the first 10000 dollars spent gets one rate, then the next 10,000 dollars gets a higher rate on up the ladder? Is this what you mean?

And consumption on what?

When I add up the columns of "bad" done by the Dems, the list is yet longer according to my value system.

Like your not understanding how war affects the poor more then it does the wealthy, or your not knowing that capital gains taxes are at their lowest rate nearly ever. Or your lack of understanding of Obama's healthcare program in regards to believing that anyone could get low cost high deductible insurance right now, so why do we need it?

You don't engender much confidence in your ability to understand.

I know Lois, That is what is so sad. You really do not understand. You will continue to vote republican, no matter how messed up they are, simply because you believe that the dems are worse. even when facts point to otherwise.

Lois...I still don't get your answer...please post what makes you vote republican.

I can easily tell you why I vote democrat...here a few, clean air, clean water, women rights, civil right, worker rights, education, science, progressive thinking, protecting national parks, wilderness areas, open space lands, animal species to name a few.

That would be a flat tax Lois. Flat taxes unfairly hurt the poor. Hopefully some day you will understand this.

How does a flat tax "unfairly hurt the poor"? It is reasonable for the rich to pay a larger amount in taxes, but why a higher rate? Under the constitution, we are all entitled to equal treatment under the law. To single out a particular group and make them pay a higher punitive rate simply because they are more successful sounds like discrimination to me.
