DMT - that hairy thing is a rappel rack...mainly used for long rappels so not really necessary. But the bars adjustable to vary the amount of friction put on the rope so for a first time rappeller I guess the dude thought it'd be a good idea for her to use one...he may have been right if she just only tied her hair back.

That same thing happenned back around 1995. A girl with wonderful long blonde hair was rappelling down the main face out front and got her hair hopelessly tangled in her device. Her "guide" had only the one rope, so he had to run down to the road, procure another, run back up and set up before he could descend to her and administer the haircut.

She was not a happy camper, but for us monkeys down at boulder one it was quite a show.

Useful application of Lowe TriCam, as part of three-part TR anchor above Pin Scars Wall (other anchors being the nearly-dead tree, and slung boulder).

Does anybody else see the problem with the tri cam or am I not seeing what I'm seeing?

Hi Frumy

The TriCam placement seemed good to me, or am I missing something? It is set in its designed camming mode, rather than working as a simple chock. I did re-orient a couple of 'biners after the photo was taken, but other than that this worked out well as part of a three-anchor sytem. I'm always appreciative of constructive comments on something as important as anchor building.

Maybe it's my eyes but it looks like the cam is at the end of its arc, with little stone to hold it. I might be wrong.
It just looks like a good down and out pull and that thing is out of there.

Just stuff a red camelot in that hole and be done with.

For a TriCam placement, it was pretty close to as good as they come, but in this photo it's difficult to see what's happening inside the pocket. I would call the stopper and TriCam placements pretty good, but not bomber. The tree tie-off was pretty good, but not bomber. The slung boulder was pretty good, but not bomber. The three together made for an acceptable TR anchor over a short, low-angle face. I put up this photo because getting a TR set up for Pin Scars is not a simple undertaking, and I wanted to show one possible way to go about it.

I did order a couple of Totem Cams the other day and I'll be anxious to see how they work in a shallow pocket like this.
